I came across the puget video early this year and decided to try it out. Bought their kit but discovered all my parts were just too big to fit in the tank they provide.
Instead bought a few boards of 3/8" plexiglass and did a custom case that holds around 11 gallons, its 20" tall with plenty of room for the PS to sit on the bottom. Cooling is accomplished by pumping the oil out (with an aquarium pump) to a homebuilt radiator assembly with a large fan in front of it. Used two heater cores for a '78 Pontiac Bonneville and linked them together, the radiator is probably 11" by 11" and the fan is a 9" metal bladed high output from wal-mart.
First dumped in the mineral oil at the end of may with only 6 gallons (all i bought I first, got 5 more gallons the next week) which reached past the CPU but not to the vid cards. No radiator attached at that point. The first night I left it running to see how hot it got, which was hot enough to freeze the system and crash.. didn't reboot right away. Thought I had destroyed my parts for a day, but it restarted fine after the oil cooled off.
Attached first radiator assembly which was one heater core with the fan off the PS and encased in a wood box (bad surface area usage of rad). With this rad going the system would hover between 35 - 55 degrees Celsius (using CoreTemp). With lots of apps running or a somewhat graphical game temps would start to go near the 62 degree ceiling so I would shut it off overnight.
Removed wood box and the PS fan - instead added the second heater core and this sat completely open except for the bracketing on the sides. The 9" desktop style fan just sat in front of the rad and with this assembly the system stayed below 60 degrees. I noticed most of the air seemed to hit the rad and rebound instead of going through (pretty small fins on the heater cores). Still not low enough so...
Just last night finished making a shroud for the fan forcing almost all the fan's output thru the rad. On just the fan's low setting I can feel about twice as much air coming through now, and it can go up to medium or high. Have yet to see results from this, but I think it should lower max temps reached even further.
