#2143972 Getting my of custom painted

Posted by GabrielT on 17 July 2015 - 06:54 AM

Depending on your area you might be able to find an airbrush artist. Call an auto shop that does custom work. See if they if they know a good airbrush guy. A cycle shop or even a lowrider place would be perfect. Doing the bulk of the prep and even the base coat will save you a bunch of money.

Personally I wouldn't even prime the outside. Scuff the paint that is on there with 400 grit sandpaper and a sanding block. Follow with a few light coats of base until you have an even finish. Follow drying time directions before attempting to move it and then have your airbrush artist do the last steps. Home clear coat is tricky but can be done if you need to.

you know my wife brought something to my attention 2 years ago I had a pretty bad cycling accident and suffered a major concussion and a subdural hematoma. and after that I seem to have lost the ability to focus and stay interested on any one thing which would explain why I have lost interest in gaming.

Bummer dude, I would see a doctor about that if you haven't already. You might have concussed yourself so hard you got ADD or something similar.

I feel your pain, I lost interest last year. What got me back into it was the itch to upgrade so I started gaming again so I would have a better excuse for why I wanted to. Though I was having fun my 5770 just screaming away with it's blower cooler and was starting to struggle in newer games.

Well don't worry about having the latest and greatest card or processor or component. There's no reason to jump from upgrades like that way. There are plenty people who go three years or more between upgrades and aren't bothered by it. Settings get dialed down here and there, but games can still look pretty great even with that.

My upgrade cycle is about 5 years plus and I still haven't found a game that looks bad with the settings I end up using.

I think any quality psu in the 800 to 850 range would give you plenty of power and you would stay in the efficiency curve of the psu as well

Posted by GabrielT on 01 April 2015 - 01:35 PM

As far as the bios is concerned I don't understand how it could be the problem you are describing. I agree that it would be nice if they updated the bios but company's often choose not to update if they don't see a problem with the older bios. ASUS is probably the best about tech support and bios fixes, I haven't owned a MSI board honestly.

You might have to call them, I speak English as my first language but I have a phone number direct to tech support. I'm not sure what language options there are though. If you would like it I will send it to you in a private message.

#2137999 CPU Cooler for AMD FX-6300 ?

Posted by GabrielT on 12 March 2015 - 04:26 AM

I found a slightly better deal on RAM while RAM shopping for my parents.

Red Corsair Vengence RAM is $58 for a dual channel 8GB 1600mhz kit. Pretty sweet, more beefy CPU coolers will clear these ram sticks.

I'd hope he'd be able to make an exception for lifetime warranty and better performance from the XFX :)

But yeah, I didn't notice the RAM was just one stick but honestly who cares. Dual channeling has never made a real life noticeable performance improvement, plus he could always buy a second 8GB later if he wants but why spend more now? The SSD was a no brainer, double the space for a useable amount of OS drive storage and barely more expensive.

I have owned a couple XFX cards, a 5770 and a 9600GT. The 5770 has been flawless but the 9600GT was another story.

The old 9600GT blew up an electrolytic capacitor at a time when all other companies were putting solid cap on there cards. I RMA's it and 6 months later the RMA card blew the same two caps. I called up XFX and they told me because I hadn't registered the second card my warranty was invalid. I am sure I missed some fine print somewhere but how many hoops should I jump through to have them send me a working graphics card? Double lifetime warranty my butt.

I'm only kicking myself a little for not picking up a 280x, in the end the 960 still outperforms the 280/285 and that is good enough for me.

No buyers remorse though, I am so stoked for my GTX 960 to come I might head to the post office at opening to try to talk them into letting me pick it up there.

I would stay far from liability, personally. I sure am glad I had full coverage on my Mustang.

Liability is for beaters you don't care about.  Anything still worth money is better off with full coverage whether it's paid off or not imo.

I did recommend he spend the 30k on 30 $1000 cars
That is a recommendation I sand by it, just take out the bluetooth stereo and shove it in the next beater, preferably stick to a brand of reliable but unattractive cars that people don't want...
Holy crap, he could buy 30 low mileage Pontiac Aztecs   He would be set for transport for life, but at what cost? Hell you could get 15 excellent ones, I mean straight up cherry.

#2117646 XFX R7 240 Reviewed

Posted by GabrielT on 25 March 2014 - 08:43 AM

When you said last gen cards would be a better value I am not sure I agree. I think this card is superior in low power consumption and it's passively cooled with insane overclocking headroom.

I think this, and XFX's version of the R7 250 are probably the low cost HTPC video cards to beat.
