  1. I used to put a plastic sandwich bag or saran wrap around my finger and then spread it that way. Gave it that satisfying finger spreading goodness as well keeping oils out. Not to mention you don't have a goopy finger when you are done.
  2. Vent's the latest version, I went to Asus website and downloaded the drivers from there. I'm still forced to use windows vista/7 Horrible control panel for sound, but at least vents working again. For those of you using vista or 7 that own a newer sound card, do you get the sound cards control panel and options back, or does windows force you to use theirs? I just want my old controls back like i have with my audigy2 on winXP.
  3. As of late i've been having issues with my onboard sound, ventrilo, and my OS. My motherboard is Asus M2n-SLI. I'm actually having multiple issues with getting 5.1 audio to work but at the moment the ventrilo problems are giving me the biggest pains. At first i was running a clean install of Vista and drivers vista grabbed on its own. Vent worked fine, I could hear people and they could hear me. The next day, I'm assuming after vista installed some updates, I can no longer hear people over vent when direct sound is enabled. Annoying, but i could live without it. Now on to today, I installed windows 7, everything on vent worked fine. A bit later i come back, same old problems, but this time i can't hear anyone on vent even with direct sound disabled. My onboard sound, vista, and W7 are all driving me insane with these issues. Any insight to solving this would be great. I'm also in the marked for a new, head ache free, sound card. If anyone has any suggestions, Currently looking at HT | OMEGA STRIKER or the asus xonar.
  4. Hey guys, I've been out of the computer loop tonight so some input would be great. I'm finally after years upgrading. But on a budget. I'e got my heart set on the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 Black Ed. I'm looking for something solid, stable, some OC capability, and roughly around $100. I can stray from that price a little if need be. It does not have to have all the bells and whistles out there. Just something well rounded that will last me a few years. Any response ASAP would be great because my current PC of 5 years is starting to give out on me and I'm feeling the urge to order parts tonight.
  5. My current router, Linksys 54G seems to have died on me. I'm not really that upset since it's a POS and needed reboots every other minute. So I was hoping you guys could throw out some suggestions for a new router since im not going back to the same one. A bit of info about my use. I have two computers using wireless (range is not an issue) One Hardwired, (me) Other that WoW, bit torrent, and some other P2P apps Im not really a power user when it comes to networking. I'd just like something that doesn't need reboots all the time, easy to setup and secure. Price range of about $50ish Wanna keep it under 60. After reading review on the linksys 54GL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833124190 I'm a lil put off by the negative reviews about poor p2p speeds. Any other suggestions would be great.
  6. Yes, but won't vista be able to use this kind of setup more more efficiently and effectively? Not that buying it now still makes sense since vista's not even out yet.
  7. I wouldnt exactly call the law unconstitutional, just uneccessary with all the other laws out there already doing the same thing.
  8. http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Wonder-X1900-Exp...p;s=electronics $226 from amazon. It was 202 on newegg but out of stock, then just the other day newegg raised it to 300 RAM is easy enough and cheap enough to upgrade down the line Macs....I don't think so. She and I are not willing to venture down the road of the apple.
  9. Oh believe me I would love to put this rig in my sig. But I do not have the money nor do I have any real, practical reason to upgrade. Mine still does all that I need. Could be faster, but it gets the job done. So what memory would you recommend to go with the gigabyte GS3? I keep hearing about all these voltage problems but can't seem to find a solid answer on which voltage works for sure. BTW: the vid card was only a lil over 200, not bad in my opinion for a good card along with the tuner
  10. The reason I chose fairly high end parts is to prevent the need to upgrade for a matter of time. I realise this is more than she will need in most cases, but as I said, she's not a noob either. However, she wants this comp to last as long as her last one has (7years). I'm not going to build her some $300 POS empty box. So instead of telling me what my mom's computer needs are, how about we focus on what I really asked? Like memory concerns with that mobo. I am looking into a larger HDD and will look at the NEC. Thanks to those of you that really answered the quesion.
  11. Well, I ended up having to build my mom's new computer after all. I do not keep up on everything as much as I used to, so if you guys would review the parts I have picked out I would appreciate it. Keep in mind folks that this computer is for my mother. The main factors are stability, durability, longevity, and quiet. For the most part she does basic computing, she's not a newb but not a power user either. Case: Picked this one because it's quiet, has a PS and inexpensive http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16811129155 Mobo:Still not too many core 2 mobos out there. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16813128012 CPU: I like AMD but the speed and the price of these things are too good to pass. I know I could get the E6600 for $100 more, but that would put it over the budget. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16819115004 Memory: I have heard the GS3 have some problems with certain RAM, voltage issues and what not. Any advice on this part would be great. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16820144177 Display: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16824116011 Optical drive: Don't even bother to recommend a plextor or sony. I dislike them both. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16827106015 HDD: She doesnt need that much space. So these should do fine. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16822148107 Vid card: Wanted the AIW so we can get her old VHS to DVD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102685 Any advice is great guys, thanks
  12. I can't stand playing without those bars there. I never did when I first started, but as a damage class I have to have those. Makes targeting in crowded instance runs much easier as well.
  13. Well, I expect to have to remove a ton of pre-installed junk no matter which brand I get her to go with. Thanks for all the fast replys guys. Guess I will have her go with HP. I'm not anti Dell or anti Intel, I just like to help the competetion out.
  14. My mom is in the market for a new computer, and I just don't have the time to build and maintain it for her. Other than Dell I don't mess with many other prebuilts these days. I would like to support AMD, so Dell is out of the question. What brands would you guys suggest these days? HP, Compaq, ect? She uses it for basic tasks so she doesnt need alien ware or FNW either. Thanks for any input.
  15. After reviewing all the software settings and wire connections try taking a look at the speakers themselves. Normally if things go bad it's sooner than later. Try connecting another source to them, like a portable cd player, mp3 player, or another computer. When my speakers went bad if first thought it was the sound card as well, turned out to be the speakers themselves.
