  1. Bah, i'm done arguing with you folks. I can find something more fun to do than explain to people why size 62 bold arial font would be best displayed as size 62 arial font rather than a 342 KB uncompressed jpeg file. Or why anyone who shows others how to do things are instantly made incapable, yet somehow when the flaming person decides to act as teacher, they are void from this rule. Or why a site that's ugly, cluttered, slow, frequently down, difficult to update, expensive, barren, and/or unnavigable is NOT better than a fast, responsive, aesthetically pleasing site. Or any of the hundreds of other unbacked flames or biased opinions. =3 I'm gonna go play Morrowind. It's more fun than a bunch of l33+1$+z. ^.^
  2. My polls in other forums have yeilded very positive results, actually. But i'm glad that, however much of a butthole you were, you did give valid points. I had planned to make a navbar. I'm still deciding whether it should be vertical or horizontal. The 'things in the center' were going to be the links on the gear that you see. The Logo will be Axle, the mascot. I'll show that whenever it gets finished being drawn. Thanks for the constructive criticism. Even it was worded rudely. Again as for the teachers: If teachers are so incapable of making effective websites, then why do we have them? If your right, then everyone who ever made a successful website did it without any training or experience!
  3. How about 16 seconds? This is why Asus has a BIOS update downloader program. As for my teacher: I wouldn't consider $13 an hour and full gov't benefits to be 'not cutting it'. If your going to flame, at least come in with a reason and some decent ammo.
  4. I asked for constructive criticism. Not for people to come in and tell me to build their site and slap my name on it. Constructive criticism would be like Mitsurugi gave: "You should blend the text in more. Give it a rusty look, darken it a bit." Or like Kelly gave: "You should have a mascot." Or like one other person here gave: "The theme should match the computers, or vise versa." Not "Your site sucks. 'Cuz." Or "My site's better. See?"
  5. I'm afraid I (and the graphics art teacher at my college) don't agree with you on this subject. I hate to say it, but I take the teacher's word a bit higher. She does, after all, have a degree in teaching professional website design. So sorry. But my layout will not ugly, as per your suggestions. Now, if you want to continue giving suggestions, you can suggest how to improve the current layout, or you can suggest another idea or theme. Oh, and: "Sales sites may always seam cluttered. But they are organized, it's called a marketing strategy. Get what you've got out there in front of the viewer. If they don't see it, they probably won't buy it." If they can't find what they're looking for, they probably won't buy that, either.
  6. Funny, I can find exactly what i'm looking for with one click. All the needed links are in plain sight right in front of you. As opposed to the site you posted initially. Where there's a half a million unrelated links thrown in every conceavable nook and cranny of the site, which extends all the way down to the bottom of an already bloated, slow page.
  7. Not bad. It's easy to navigate and simple. Though I wouldn't put those giant pngs there. They're just text. You could just set the font and color in HTML and it would load faster and look just as good. (I'm talking about this pic: http://66.177.25.238/consider-it.png ) But I want my site to have a little more eyecandy. Looking professional doesn't always mean looking drab. A professional look means it's primary concern is function, secondary is ease of use, and tertiary is speed. Looks being a bonus extra. I'm going for just that, but /with/ good looks. It's quite possible. Some examples include: http://everquest.station.sony.com/ http://www.asus.com/ (Which is really slow due to high-traffic, a problem i'll be sure to avoid) http://www.creative.com/ They keep an overall scheme that is aesthetically pleasing. Not just plain drab text inside of colorless square boxes. The sites work smooth, efficiently, and relatively quickly. Too many 'professional' sites end up just trying to jam as much of their latest sales gimicks onto the page, drowning out the entire page in over 100 different links. Basically, I go by this rule: If your site is so cluttered it needs a search engine to navigate, then you >must< redesign. If someone can't get to what they're looking for on your site in under 30 seconds, then your site is too hard to navigate. And if any single navigationally purposed page on your website is in excess of 180 KB, it's going to take too long to download. Big pictures and animations are for intros, product demonstrations, advertisements, and Yahooligan spamstores.
  8. Looks pretty cluttered and hard to navigate to me.
  9. What looks professional, then? Obviously not big rainbow colored text and dozens of unrelated rotating GIFs.
  10. Ya, I know, I know. But that's not what the poll is here for. I'm just asking for people's opinion on the looks. So far, only one person seems to have actually given a poor vote for a reason. The rest appear to just be bashing because they can. Typical. =3 Now, if they actually gave some advice on /improvement/...
  11. Ya, I know a guy who can't OC his 900 MHz Tbird at all, but my record for my 950 is 1533 MHz stable. It really depends on the quality of the chip. Even two identical chips can be a lot different.
  12. Ah, so it's basically kinda like the new-age MMX. Thanks!
  13. If you get an equivalent 32-bit Ultra320 10k RPM HDD, it >will< outperform a raptor. Although it will cost more. And there are 32-bit PCI U320 controllers capable of handling 15k RPM HDDs. Just make sure that it's on it's own PCI BUS and not sharing with another device. SATA is kinda like poor man's SCSI that's a lot easier to use. It can't compete with real SCSI. But it's a lot easier to install and work with. Dun have to worry about resistor packs and special drivers and such. But if your really going for performance and don't mind paying $500+ for a harddrive, SCSI owns. Even in 32-bit PCI.
  14. No. It's for Graphics and Art Workstations. I know a lot of artists personally who are planning to purchase computers from me custom-built to work stylish with programs such as Photoshop, Lightwave, and Maya.
  15. Check the thermal sensors for accuracy and hysteresis. It sounds like they may well be deffective.
