  1. I just found 15-16MB Memory Hole option in the intergrated perperherial section of the BIOS. I just wonder if any 4GB user can try to enabled to see if it resolves the issue under XP64. XP32 SP2 does support PAE, but PAE is a bit of a hack that is fading out to x86-64. These problems are what datacenter adminstartors have been dealing with in the past five years.
  2. I believe that the 4GB+ problem is actually a mapping issue not a hardware problem. DFI 975x is not unique ether. The solution to the problem is to remap I/O resources, but it effectively eliminates device resources of legacy devices (PS/2, Serial, IRQ, DMA etc). I am not sure where you can enable "remap I/O resources" in the current BIOS, nor I have 4GB of memory to test it. I doubt that the new revisions will solve the problem. The reworked circuitry on DIMM slots and VDIMM will just improve stability. Anyway, XP32 will only can use up 3.5GB total, (512 is reserved) and 2GB per process without PAE.
  3. The stock NB heatsink is pretty decent. The problem is that uses sub-par thermal paste. Just remove and clean the crappy stuff and replace it with some Arctic Sliver 5. It had decreased my NB temp by 8-15C!
  4. E6600 users, I doubt that the board is the problem when you are going around 400 FSB. The CPU itself starts not be able to tolerate running at 3.4-3.6Ghz without significant overvolting. C2Ds that can overclock beyond 3.6Ghz are still rare and often require a lot of voltage and cooling.

  6. The new BIOS is a bit more stable then 9/13 for my hardware, although 400Mhz on 1:1 is still a no go. I am now running some SP2004 at 395Mhz FSB. I will post details later.
  7. I suspect the problem is caused by legacy addressing. Here is a PDF file from Intel that explains it in better detail . You have to enable PCI remap of reserved area to fix the problem. The drawback is that older OS like 9x cannot detect PCI devices.
  8. No problem, I thought a seperate 3Dmark01SE entry would suffice. The reason I did it is because I forgot to do a run of 3Dmark01SE at the end of my SP2004 stress-testing.
  9. I had managed to get a 380FSB on 1:1 divider and dual-channel enabled stable enough. I am about to do a SP2004 8 hour session to verify its relative stability. I was also tweaking my X1900XT to get a gaming stable speed of 600/1540Mhz without a voltage bump in ATI tray tools. 390 still has the werid Windows outright freezes with no BSOD problem. I suspect that one of the devices on some of the PCIe lanes hates going beyond 101Mhz, because PCIe 120Mhz trick outright fails. :/
  10. I am starting play to with the 9/13 Beta. Running Orthos 2004 for a 15 minute run. It seems my new PC P&C Sliencer 610W is doing something. I'll post more later.
  11. You just made it obivious that you are GPU-bounded and need a beefer GPU to see any sigficiant gains from a faster CPU. I noticed that my overclocked X1900XT is able to flex its muscles more when I move it to my Allendale 6300 at 2.63Ghz from my older Opteron 165@2502Mhz.
  12. Amen, Game Darn kiddies do not realize that this board uses the older 975X chipset. It cannot overclock as well as the 965 that is going all the mad overclocks with the E6300, E6400 chips. 975X ASUS board only manages to fare better due to 1.33Ghz strap. I originally want to achieve a 400FSBBack when I decided to get this board. A stable 375Mhz is close enough. I still have hope that the beefer PSU and next stable BIOS update could make a stable 400Mhz FSB possible. My current system outruns the previous setup of EpoX NF4 Ultra and Opteron 165Mhz by a noticable degree. Even with my "lowly" E6300 overclock of at 2.63Ghz. I suspect some of the quarkly behaviors that I have experience from the board is simply PSU related. A PC P&C 610 Sliencer is coming soon to verify it. In the end, I still recommand this board in its current state for E6600 and higher overclocking.
  13. Here's an interesting question. I was wondering if my current Enermax 535W PSU (24pin/4pin) was enough to keep my motherboard stable? The manual recommands a PSU with (24pin/8pin) setup, but I figure it was for power-hungry Prescotts and its siblings. The reason I am asking is because anytime I swap memory modules my current rig refuses to POST until I pull-out the CMOS battery for a couple of seconds and put it back in. The system also takes a few seconds after pressing the power button to power-up. Yesterday, when I was stress-testing and tweaking my system within Windows and need to reboot for changes. Windows was doing its typical seqeience until it completely froze and the LEDs on the case when blank. I naturally power-down the system and it refuse to POST, until I gave the board a 15 second breather. The Enermax has enough power for your rig.
  14. 7/31 BIOS Allendale E6300@375x7=2.63Ghz Vcore 1.325 2x1GB sticks of GSkill F2-6400PHU1-1GBHZ@561Mhz 3-3-3-8, VDIMM 2.15V, Dual-Channel and 4:3 divider ASUS X1900XT@675/1530Mhz Emermax 535W ATX12V 2.0V PSU Cooled by a Alpha PRE9060 + Panaflo 92x25mm Ultra speed fan and some AS5. It has endured 8 hours of SP2004 and 2 passes in Memtest86 3.2 without a problem. 380-395 FSB do POST, but Windows just outright freezes after 5-20 minutes with no BSOD. Adding more NB, CPU voltage and relax timings failed to yield results. I never had any success with the 8/23 and 8/30 Beta BIOS which refuse to POST with help of raju's guideline at stock speeds. I suspect it is because memory doesn't like the chipset timings in the beta BIOS. here's a screenie: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/Kro...5/C2DOCing1.jpg
