  1. With regards to the monthly fee and WOW. i think Blizzard should start up their own power leveling service. That way, WOW players would be paying Blizzard for the game itself, the right to play the game, and for blizzard to play the game for them.
  2. Thanks a lot for your advice guys, i mounted my old CPU heatsink fan over the top of right hand ram area. and temps dropped like a rock. the pwm is hanging out around 43 now. (this is at stock speed however, and it is cooler today than when i last checked, but still) I might try to ramp it up a little later on tonight.
  3. oops, i am using speedfan for monitoring the temps. Sorry about that. I plan to try and max it out once i have enough money saved to replace anything fubar parts. I seem to have a hot running chip to begin with, Plus i worry about pushing that PSU very hard because i have heard of its questionable reliability.
  4. Can a raise of cpu voltage lower the PWMIC temp? I am trying to OC my system to a modest goal of 2.2 ghz to help alleviate some of the bottleneck created by my new x1950xt. This would take my ram up to its stock DDR500. I have heard of 165 optys going as high as 2.6 so i think i will be able to do this with relative ease. I have attempted this in the past. but i removed the OC when PWMIC temps rose to the 65+ region. My stock voltage is 1.3v and i was going to raise it to 1.35. would this help or do i have the wrong idea? My understanding (from reading the guide) is that i will just need to slowly raise the FSB up to 250 and keep temps under control. Since I'm not trying to find the limit of my cpu and i'll essentially be running my ram at stock speeds i should not need to worry about a memory divider. is the something i am missing? Thanks in advance for any help given.
  5. My original thread is dead and has already filled its purpose. it is five days old and has drifted four pages back, a link was included for reference. The purpose of this thread is for advice on the three powers suppiles i am considerening buying not diagnosing the problem. I don't see how this is a double post. please don't ignore this question because of a link to previous information.
  6. My computer recently started having problems booting. The problems i am having are consistant with a failing power supply. I'll post a link to my help thread for reference. Please try to read it and see if a power supply makes sense. Please post any opinions regarding that thread here so as not to bump an old thread. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72793 Moving forward, i have selected three power supplies from newegg that i could afford. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817103512 ENERMAX Whisper II EG565P-VE FMA(24P) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817104934 FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500-A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817128002 HIPER HPU-4K580-MS ATX12V I generated this list while looking at the recomended power supplies list and was still confused on what i would need. Please tell me if any of these units would cause problems with my setup, listed below. Or if they are grossly over or under powered. I had been doing mild overclocking prior to the incedent. I personally am leaning more towards the Hiper unit because it looks great and has modular cables. any opinions would welcome. thank you for your time.
  7. Sorry for the mixup. the green light is on the front of my case, just a standard led that lights up when the computer is on. strangly enough. the computer is running fine right now. once it boots it seems to run fine.
  8. My PC is having some problems booting recently. A week ago around christmas i went away for a few while. shutting off everything and unplugging my computer. When i returned i tried to boot up the computer, my case lights and fans turned on. then nothing no booting not even any beeping from the motherboard. after cutting the power i tried rebooting and things went up fine. although i did notice a highpitch whine coming from the motherboard/power supply area. the computer ran fine for the few days i was home. I then left again for another family visit. this time i left everything plugged in. but the computer itself was off. upon my arival home. i pushed the button on my case to boot up, the green power light came on and nothing happend. no fans, no lights, nothing. pushing the button again did nothing as well. i cycled the switch on the power supply and tried again, this time, it booted to the login screen. but all the fans runing off my fan controler were dead. i shutdown and tried again. next time the fans were working but no booting or beeping. i noticed that the red lights under my ram were lit, as well as the green light. i tried pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds everything then shut off. but subsequent button pressing did nothing. after another powercycle the system seemed to boot fine, however i still hear that highpicthed whine whenever the powersupply switch is on. Any ideas on what could be causing this erratic behavior. the system had a mild overclock from 1.8 to 2.0 up till the first incedent, i subsequently undid the overclock and is running at stock ever since. I should note the system never had problems up until now. Thanks in advance for reading all that.
  9. My Volts are stock too, 1.3. So it looks like i'm boned. I too think there is actually worse performence with the 120. But its so much quieter.
  10. Hello, I have been trying to overclock my new Opty 165, but the thing runs too hot, My idle temps are 38-40, but my load temps are 52-55, This is at stock speeds. Granted my ambient temps are between 25-32, but Everyone is saying that these are high enough for concern. I am using the stock Opty Heatsink with AS5 and a 120mm Antec Tricool fan. (had to use a fan reducer), I am reasonably certain that is applied the AS5 correctly, and people talk about how great the stock cooler is. How then, are they getting load temps of 45 @2.4 ghz. My Stepping is CCB1E 0609FPBW. Is this just a hot chip? What should i do to lower the temps, I'm not even sure if a better cooler would help.
  11. I recently downloaded speed fan to check the RPMs of my CPU fan. While checking that, i noticed that the values for vcore1 and vcore2 did not match. Vcore1 was reading 1.33V and vcore2 was reading 1.17. Is this normal? My system specs are in my sig. i plan to do some overclocking once my arctic silver arrives.
  12. I am building the system in my sig later this week. I have both the versions of windows avaiable to use, but i'm not sure what one would be better for this build. I have heard that drivers are an issue with 64, but i have also hear that it is not. Any advice?
  13. Thanks for your help everyone. I am planing on getting the gskill ram, but i still dont quite understand what the advantage is in getting the ddr 500 ram. I know it has something to do with overclocking. but will it work fine if i dont OC?
