  1. Howdy. I currently use the system in my sig with dual viewsonic 19" Flat screens. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824116375 Now, I feel like spoiling myself and setting up a triple system, probably buying another one of those or the similar glossy model. Are there any suggestions on the best method to go about doing this? My graphics card still runs pretty good, Certain games I can play spanned across both monitors. (2560 X 1024 resolution) But I don't aim to do this with 3. The center will be my primary focus (as the left one is now) and the right and left will be for other windows / applications (like my right one is now) And who knows, I might try world of warcraft at least once spanned on all 3 But anyways, would buying another PCI-E card, changing the jumpers to X 8 X 8 on the board and running with it be the best bet? or since it will be only running 1 monitor and no games, could I save money and buy a less expensive PCI slot card / budget PCI-E Also, the ATI Catalyst software with the two monitors works great, allowing me to "drag and drop" the second display on any which side of the primary to place it beside, above or below it. Would buying another ATI PCI-E card for the third monitor allow the same software to control all 3 and "move" them with ease? Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the input everyone, I went ahead with the 170. Now my only fear is that something besides my PSU went down last weekend. The PSU died but I wasn't home when it happened (no one was) Just came home, and it wouldn't turn on. I didn't have the backup supplies to test any of the other parts yet. Ordered the 170, new PSU and sent the old off for RMA. (Ordered the OCZ 700w) The new PSU and new case come in tomorrow, Hopefully things will go smoothly EDIT: Also, my current bios should be fine with the new proc right? ( I know about clearing cmos, deleting saved settings, etc.) But should I upgrade it? I haven't even checked for an upgrade since I first built the system a year ago. Currently using the modded 7/04 2BTA
  3. Any recommendations on where to look then? I mainly only shop from Newegg, where currently only Opty 165/70/75/80's are in stock right now. No x2's
  4. So ignoring the 200$ limit for a moment, what would be the best dual core s939 for the money? I wouldn't be looking to overclock much, my current processor I only overclocked from 2.0 to 2.4 and stuck with the stock HSF. This would be the same deal with the new processor, if I did OC It wouldn't be much, and I would want to stick with the stock fan.
  5. So I'm assuming deafinitely go with an opty, as no ones recommended the X2 or an FX?
  6. I do have my ram overclocked stable though at default timings and 1T. 200 mhz up to 240 no problem. (It's as far as I've tested.)
  7. Hello, I'm looking to upgrade the CPU on the main rig in my signature. My main target is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103562 But it is currently out of stock. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to get, at the 200$ or less mark? Thanks
  8. So my main rig went down yesterday, (just the PSU so far, being RMA'd) and it's sparked some interest in me to re-do things a little. I haven't reformatted the sucker since my original build, where I have the two Hitatchi 80GB's in Raid-0 16k/4k I have a third 80GB sata drive that i'd like to throw into the mix once I get my replacement PSU back, but my concern is it's not SATA II compatible, while the other two Hitachi's already are sata II enabled. Should I disable the Sata II functionality of the Hitachi's before i throw the Segate into the mix? (For a 3 drive Raid-0) Also, should I go with something like a 32k stripe 4k cluster? I know the "double the drives double the stripe" rule, but I'm adding just 1, not doubling.. Thanks! EDIT: Also, which/where are the newest nf4 raid drivers?
  9. I'm trying to put together some budget pc's for a church in my town and have come across this board on newegg: DFI K8m800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136143 Is this board any good and should I go with it? It's the least expensive AMD board on newegg. (Very budget pc's)
  10. Hello, I built my system almost a year ago now and have been running it ever since, no problems, when today I was clearing out the icons on my desktop and came across the CPUZ folder. I decided to fire it up for old times sake, only to see it reporting my ram as 2T timing instead of 1T. I rebooted into the bios, checked the option, (it was 1T) booted back into windows and voila, 1T under CPUZ. Another time following this at reboot the POST screen said 1T Timiing instead of 1T dual channel.. then just now it had the dual channel in there again.. Am I tired, and perhaps going completely insane? or is this a possible series of events? EDIT* Recent hardware change from a SB Live! 24 bit sound card to a used SB Audigy.
  11. Thanks for the reply, but I see I wasn't thorough in my explanation. I have a system setup already where I will have invoices, receipts, etc for the customer. I was planning on being very organized and well documented on my end, mostly to protect my self. I won't however be able to accept money by ways of plastic. *Credit / Debit* I won't however, be doing any repairs, as I get enough of that where I intern. I've seen more 98 systems with 5 1/4 floppy drives than I can shake a stick at. I want to stick primarily with building NEW complete systems for people. Because I currently have very little capital, for starters it will be a system where the customer pays for the parts, I order, build, install, etc. then send them home with their product, after a demonstration of how it performs. This was meant for a way for me to make extra money, without the time constraint of a normal part time (paying) job. If I want to make my money at 2 AM then that's what I'll do
  12. Hello, Been a member for quite some time, just haven't had a reason to post in a while, although I've decided to ask a quick question. I'm opening a *very* small, part time business out of home in my home town. Custom PC building. I go to school, and an in-town internship at a computer repair/build store, so I'm really only doing this for extra spending money. (Nintendo Wii here I come!) I've got the vast majority of it all sorted out. I've signed up with the city... (they really don't care, population 7,000) Got what I do and dont need to tax sorted out, have a general idea of my prices and warranty figured out, and have all the licences/permits I need. What I'm here to ask you is... is this a huge mistake? Will I take my 2nd or 3rd build only to find my self knee deep in @#$% I know nothing about? I've only really built like 3 complete machines. I have the know how, and I plan on working only with parts/companies/brands I know and trust. (Hopefully a lot of DFI board purchases will come out of this) I built the first system in my sig not too long ago, with the help and research done here at the street. I've also built 2 more for friends and only a couple at work, that I wouldn't even really call a complete build. So far NONE of them have had any problems, including mine which I slightly overclocked. So does anyone have any suggestions? I was already thinking about only offering to build AMD systems for the time being, seeing as that's all I've done so far, and I don't know anything about the new DDR2. (can't be too different can it?) Insight appreciated MUCH!! Thanks.
  13. Basically I'm finding the FireMV drivers ARE the radeon drivers, just with the option of the Cpanel still included. I actually found, looking at the screenshots posted on the link above, that Anti Aliasing wasn't even fully functional with the original Cat 6.3 drivers, and I made it so with the firemv ones... (as seen on the "wall" pictures) This install package also doesn't require the use of a third party program like ATI Tray tools, if not wanted. (I personally don't like it, as I can't seem to find my way around it at all, and there are 23523 options I have no clue what to do with.)
  14. Nope, I get the same exact score variance in 3dmark05, and I'm pretty sure the same in 06. (I didn't write it down before I Up/downgraded, whatever you want to call it.) What seems weird though is the thing about ati-tools 3d window frames going down. I might try a fresh-fresh install again tonight and see if that fixes it. I didn't even mess with the ati overdrive in the control panel, but it was there. It didn't have a manual looking way of changing the clocks, but it could be possible? I just don't think so.
