  1. Thanks for the replies, I have read the threads that have to do with maxtor-dfi conflict (it actually is a maxtor-nforce4 conflict) however I think the type of problem in my situation is somehow different. The drive is correctly recognized by the system. It does not disapear! The problem comes up when an OS tries to use or access the drive. 1) I managed to do a windows setup but it seems that I was just very lucky. After the installation I did a reboot and after that I never saw again the windows desktop. It justs takes a century to boot and after that: Blue Screen of Death. If I boot with safe mode selected then it freezes again (on Mup.sys). 2) I tried to setup the windows again but it just freezes when it access the drive (just as I have said in my initial post). Tried it with nvidia diskette driver but in vain, although it is not necessary (remember, Windows are a SP2 Pro edition). When it freezes it shows the following message: "Examining 152626 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi..." OR "Examining 152626 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on nvbus..." when I use external floppy drivers. 3) I tried to setup the windows with the same drive on another PC with a DFI LP SLI-D and the installation procedure was very smooth and without any problem! 4) I contacted maxtor (while opening this thread) and they just said me to check and upgrade to newer bios and/or controller driver etc on my system. Well, I now have upgraded to 2005/06/23 (beta) but still no results. 5) I disabled and removed all the other devices (except of one optical drive), but still no results. It just refuses to work. Is there any issue with DFI NF3 and maxtor sata2 disks?? Does anybody else have issues with maxtor sata drive on an nforce 3 board?? It just doesn't work. I don't know what else to do.
  2. I have recently purchased an 160GB Maxtor SATA II drive and I face some serious problems on getting it work in my system. The hard drive is a DiamondMax 10, model 6V160E0 with firmware VA111610, Mfg. Date 14NOV2005. I have tried the drive on all the available (4) SATA ports with no success. Problem Description: When I try to install MS Windows XP (with SP2) the system freezes when windows try to access/recognise the drive, althouth HDD is successfully recognised by the hardware (I can see it under the bios hdd section, and the startup screen). Sometimes it passes this point but the same problem shows up after the first reboot of the installation procedure. I have also tried to partition the drive with linux fdisk (booting from a Slamd64 CD, and trying alternatively sata.i and sata.s drivers), but still with no success: The system freezes for a long time and in the end it indicates some read/write (I think) failure. The HDD is a SATA2 drive. I have tried it with jumpers set to 3.0Gb/s or 1.5Gb/s but that didn't help. Please help me resolve the above issues.
