Slow shutdown/reboot (NOT event related!)
Yamada-kun replied to Yamada-kun's topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
Sorry to bring this back up, but no, no improvement... Still no ideas from the expert side? Or maybe the question is just plain boring? -
Hi, I am having a problem with my new PC (see sig., the only reused part is the HD). Windows XP Sp2, clean install from a slipstreamed install CD. When I Turn Off/Restart, the shutdown splash screen appears almost immediately... but after a couple of seconds the mouse cursor stops moving (not good...), and nothing happens for a minute. Then display goes off, machine still running (fans, lights on), and after 30 more seconds it finally shuts down (or reboot). I have checked the Event viewer: nothing wrong! Here is the typical event log (System tab) when performing a Restart: --------------------------------------- Event Type: Information Event Source: EventLog Event Category: None Event ID: 6006 Date: 2005/11/15 Time: 19:49:57 User: N/A Computer: XXXXX Description: The Event log service was stopped. --------------------------------------- Event Type: Information Event Source: EventLog Event Category: None Event ID: 6009 Date: 2005/11/15 Time: 19:51:40 User: N/A Computer: XXXXX Description: Microsoft ® Windows ® 5.01. 2600 Service Pack 2 Multiprocessor Free. --------------------------------------- Event Type: Information Event Source: EventLog Event Category: None Event ID: 6005 Date: 2005/11/15 Time: 19:51:40 User: N/A Computer: XXXXX Description: The Event log service was started. --------------------------------------- Almost 2 minutes between Event log stopping and starting again... Nothing in between (except kernel loading up after the long pause). Needless to say, I have tried removing/uninstalling all extra peripherals (removable disks, printer, etc...), tweaking BIOS, clearing CMOS. No result. As I said, the mouse cursor hangs, which AFAIK is usually a good indication of hardware crash... Any insight on this?
