  1. thanks for all the feedback guys, this forum is great. just wanted to tell any other SLI-DR newbies out there that updating the BIOS to the latest version (N4D623-3.zip) will remove that alert message regarding moving the RAM to slot 2 and 4. I've had mine in 1+3 for about a week and haven't had any problems so far but I've only upped their clocks to 210mhz. Has anyone run any tests to see if both channels perform equally? I would try if i could but my Zalman is blocking slot 4.
  2. I get the same message at boot regarding putting RAM into DIMM 2 and 4 for dual channel but memtest still recognizes both sticks as dual channel even in DIMM 1 and 3. I'm hoping that the message will disappear once I flash the BIOS to the latest version. Can anyone confirm this?
  3. This is a quote from the DFI FAQ pages : Doc No : 30002500 Question : How to get better performance when the system is under over-clocking? Answer : Please insert two identical broad bandwidth memories into DIMM 2 and DIMM 4, the performance will be enhanced. Here's another quote : Doc No : 30002496 Question : In what kind of situation memories will lower its speed on NF4 series boards? Answer : ... (there's a chart that shows detailed memory speed based on DIMM slot position but i've excluded it here) ... The primordial memory SPD has been fixed at 1T. For system stability, the memory SPD must be 2T when the memories are inserted into DIMM1 and DIMM3. We suggest inserting memories into DIMM2 and DIMM4. But I was able to run the onboard memtest on my setup for 9 hours at 2.5-3-3-6 1T @ 205 mhz in slot 1 and 3... so i'm not sure what they're talking about. Maybe they are just being careful and giving general instructions that should work for most people. and btw, how can I tell what chips my RAM is using? I believe my Corsairs are using Promos but i have no idea what that means.
  4. Hi everyone, This is my first post... please be gentle. I just got this new setup and I am not happy about the size of the Zalman CPU cooler. The edge of the heat sink hangs a little bit over slot 4 making it impossible to get a stick of my Corsairs in there (they are the tallest rams i've ever seen). They are currently in slot 1 and 3 and seem to be working fine in dual channel at stock settings . The onboard memtest hasn't had any problems with them. I know that DFI recommends slot 2 and 4 for best performance so my question is whether the difference in performance between using the yellow vs orange slots is big enough to warrant modifying the heat sink to make the ram fit in slot 4. Would getting the latest BIOS do anything to help me? I'm not looking forward to modifying the heat sink but I'll do it if necessary. Thanks in advance, UA
