  1. Can someone confirm whether or not NF4 Ultra-D is actually able to go at PC3200, dual channel, when fully populated? Say it's 4 x 1GB sticks of dfi-recommended ram. matched pairs/quad(?) etc. Has this ever worked/not-worked out for anyone who has actually tried? Does DFI have an official position on this?
  2. Slightly OT question. If I fully populate all 4 ram slots (say with 4 sticks of the same ram, or with 2 pairs of same ram, each pair in each color), can we expect NF4 Ultra-D to work at the same >PC3200 speeds, and in dual channel? I can't remember for sure, but I think I read somewhere before that max speeds will drop to PC2700 or so, if you use more than 2 slots. True?
  3. I'm using Catalyst 05.5 / 6.14.10 for a 9550 card. And using the tab "Overlay", I can adjust gamma that affects only the video. (the sliders are disabled if you don't have an overlay app open) To NEO, Thanks for your help. You are correct that I didn't understand much of what you posted, so it's fine if you don't have anymore time for a noob... But there are a few more things I'm curious about. What difference does it make whether the video is in an old-mpeg1 format? Do I understand correctly that your methods don't actually earn you the ability to adjust gamma for overlay video? And you are merely setting video playback to not use overlay? (I set this through MPC options > output: "VMR9 (renderless)", not that I really know what this means... and I dunno if I can get other apps to do the same, eg. WMP, Quicktime, VLC.. which I have to use in certain circumstances when I can't use MPC) For me, it is useful to have the ability to adjust gamma for a video independently from the rest of the OS GUI. And if an authority, such as yourself, tells me definitively that I'd have to look to ATI for this particular functionality, then so be it. On the otherhand, if independent gamma-adjust in nvidia IS possible thru those reg keys, then I'd want to try it out. Oh, and please post links if you know any good pages where I can get up to speed on overlay, DD, VMR and such. What they are, and why all these different modes are out there.
  4. My work-around for now: I use Media Player Classic (MPC) for videos, so I set in View > Options > Output, VMR9 (Renderless) I think this means overlay isn't used... or something. Anyway, now gamma adjust for All or Desktop affect the video as required. (not that I claim credit for this, someone else suggested it, and I've put it off till now to try it out)
  5. You know the ATI drivers let you adjust overlay gamma... I just checked. The controls provided here are:Hue Saturation Brightness Contrast Those 4 adjustments are also available in the Nvidia driver controls anyway... (no Gamma!)
  6. NEO, If I select "All" instead of "Overlay", the gamma slider does appear. BUT it still only affects everything except overlay. Have you ever actually used it yourself? Did it change gamma for "all" for you? And sorry but where do I view / edit those settings you dumped? Fragman and e to the x, what do you guys see at that dialog? Is the gamma slider greyed when you select overlay? Are you able to adjust overlay gamma with your video drivers? Fragman, I tried Powerstrip but it also does not affect overlay content. Are you sure that Powerstrip works for your videos?
  7. I use a 21" CRT monitor thru the common VGA 15 pin connector. So I really don't think all these matter... but here you go: I never installed any monitor drivers except what Win XP automatically used. Plug and Play Monitor ver: 5.1.2001.0, date: 6/6/2001, provider: Microsoft, signer: Microsoft Windows Publisher And I'm running at 1280 x 1024, at 85Hz. If anyone with a 6600GT (or similar GeForce) is able to adjust gamma for overlay, please let me know how. Is your slider not greyed out? AceGoober, your sig says you run a 6800, are you on WinXP? What video driver? Do you mind going to your Display Properties > ... > Color Correction, like in my screenshot, and tell me whether your gamma slider is greyed-out when you select overlay? Tell me I'm the only one having this problem? TIA (edit: clarify: I never installed any monitor drivers, but i am using 81.84 for the 6600gt)
  8. OK Here's a screenshot. With Nvidia Forceware 81.84 from guru3d. My problem is still there... Am I the only one? What do you guys do if your videos are too dark and your monitor is maxed out?
  9. Right, done my sig. Not tt I think it matters for this particular question... Anyways, you guys are saying that there are unofficial drivers for Nvidia cards that allow gamma adjustment for overlay video? At Inno3d, I see things like "ForceWare 81.82 WinXP/2000"... is that what I want? Thanks!
  10. Hi all, I'm using a 6600GT on DFI NF4 Ultra-D with WinXP and the current video drivers from Nvidia. (but I think this applies regardless of which model GeForce you have or which mobo you have) I needed brighter gamma for videos so I've tried here: Display Properties > Advanced > GeForce 6600 GT > Color Correction > Apply color changes to: Overlay And then the Gamma slider is greyed out. "This option is disabled because it doesn't apply to the current edit mode" The only way I was able to brighten my video was to set zero hardware acceleration (at the "Troubleshoot" tab) and then adjust regular (i.e. non-overlay) gamma. Is there any way around this? Any unofficial GeForce drivers that have overlay gamma adjustment? Any media players that have it? I mainly use Media Player Classic to play my videos. How can I set it to non-overlay mode? Is there no good solution at all? Would this be a reason to go with ATI over Nvidia? Thanks very much! - kaon (edit: insert sig)
