  1. Just to confirm...so it will recognize both cores? Because it can support it XP Home but not recognize it.
  2. Ok..well I read the link you provided and it seems that it DOES (XP Home) support dual core. 1. Dual-Core Processor System—Customer B Customer B has a system with a single processor with two processor cores. As in the example with Customer A, only one server software license is required per processor. 2. Q. How does this licensing policy affect products such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional? A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home are not affected by this policy as they are licensed per installation and not per processor. Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one processor. Also the table at AMD: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Weblets/0,,7832_8...5~95364,00.html shows that XP Home DOES SUPPORT Dual Core Am i correct on these findings?
  3. My computer this Christmas will consist of an X2 3800+ and Windows XP Home. Now I heard that XP Home doesn't "fully" support dual core, as in it only recognizes only core. I have heard that I need XP Pro for full support and recognition? Is this true? Please say it isn't so....
  4. Video Card With all the new mainstream/budget video cards coming out, I'm a bit confused as to which is better bang for the buck? I hear the 6800GS is the best, but I hope the prices will go down a bit by Christmas. The GTO2 can be modded to X850 speeds, but am a little hesitant when it comes to modding. The X800 XL is probably out of my price range right now, but I might be able to manage if it's worth the money. 6800GS $264.98 CAD $222.93 USD X800 GTO2 $285.00 CAD $239.77 USD X800 XL $348.86 CAD $293.50 USD Are there any other video cards in the $200-$300 range that I should consider? CPU Would it be a smart move to go with an Opteron S939, (146 2ghz) or possibly a dual core Opteron (165 1.8ghz) instead of a 3200 Venice or 3800 X2? Opterons seem to be around the same price and sometimes lower. And do Opterons work well with DFI NF4 boards for support and BIOS? Single Core 3200 Venice 2GHZ 512KB $189.98 CAD $159.79 USD 146 Opteron 2GHZ 1MB $197.22 CAD $165.92 USD Dual Core 3800 X2 Dual Core 2GHZ 1MB $409.98 CAD $344.90 USD 165 Opteron Dual Core 1.8GHZ 2MB $401.15 CAD $337.35 USD Is the 165 DC Opteron worth it over the X2 3800 even though it's 200mhz lower but has 2x the cache? The price is pretty close, so price is not really a factor between the processors. Which of the following in each category will give me the best bang for the buck (overclocking ability included)? Thanks!
  5. Nice! The board looks like none other! Can't wait for the video to show this  board.
  6. Hopefully all steppings on the Opteron 144's will be able to hit 3GHZ on air.
  7. Nice! Another video Can't wait for the video of the actual build. It's gonna help me tons for my upcoming X'mas build. Thanks!
  8. Hmm...well that's too bad. I really hope they get official support
  9. Ya the X800XL will do you good for the next couple years for all/most games at medium-high settings.
  10. Where did you see/hear this that Opterons are not officially supported? Will they be supported in the future? I'm hoping to get an Opteron myself.
  11. Nice! Post some benches and all your clocks! Now if only Canada would get some quicker..
  12. Here are a few from the OCZ Forums. http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9917
  13. Thanks Heretic. I'll try and get my hands on that Stepping. But those Opterons look pretty damn promising over the Venices.
  14. Thanks for all the information. However, my mind is changing about the CPU now. I'm thinking of getting the 144 Opteron's S939 since they are "supposedly" super good overclockers and are about the same price as the 3000/3200. Their just coming out so I don't know how well they will perform. Would this be a wise choice? And would the DFI NF4 Ultra-D have support for this CPU? (Would it recognize? Need BIOS update?)
