  1. Id definately put in that divider to get up to 250FSB without stressing the ram, only for getting your ram out of the equation. The problem I find, it there are too many variables in overclocking. Lower your FSB/HTT divider to x4 and then you`ll be working with your opteron 170. 2.525 is as high as I took mine as well and then backed it off cause the temp jumped. I personally maxed out my opteron 180 at 2.8ghz.
  2. Thanks for the suggestion, I tried it out. First, I found that a 0.025 bump causes the opty to jump about 8-10C. So, I brought it back down. I also tested 285x10 with 9/10 and 5/6, lowering the FDT/HDT multi to x3(also tried x4). It wont take. Seems like the reachable limit is slightly below. I tried about 8 runs with different settings, but I didnt see any other variables to play with since the RAM can handle these speeds at stock. I may have got an average chip, but Im pretty happy with 2.8Ghz at the moment. Your chip runs nice and cool! Im going to try to lower the voltages and keep stability.
  3. Hi guys, First off, a big thanks to this forum for all the information on flashing bios, that TMOS CD kicks arse. On the 0704 bios, I upgraded from a 3500+ Venice to an Opteron 180 without problems(using hotfixs of course). Its runnin like a new machine. Right now Im trying to squeak out some more Mhz out of my rig, which is runnin at 2.8Ghz and a far too cool 38C:) Does anybody use 2GB OCZ PC500 Platinum Dual Channel with a dual core processor?? Ive looked all over and all I see is those damn EL versions which run at 2.7V or so. Here are zee qvestions: a) My timings are 3-3-3-8 @255Mhz and Id like to tighten them. My multiplier is set at x11 and the CPU is runnin at 1.48V. At the moment Ive been lazy and have everything nearly all settings auto(except LTD/FSB at x4) Where do I start? B) Is 1.48V on the CPU too low a voltage to hit 3Ghz? Or, should I lower the multiplier to x10 and torture the RAM? thanks for any help! Patrick
  4. For those of you keepin track, my BF2 experience is pretty sweet with the new RAM. Yall rock. If I had pictures of you guys, they`d be hangin above my LCD screen. Im tryin to tweak up to 240Mhzx11 or higher and the Venus freezes in BF2 so I backed it down a bit. The chip`s temp at 2.6 Mhz is 44C Max so Im thinkin I can get more out of him. Anyone have a source to find some good OCZ XTC PC500 Platinum timings for the bios? Ive checked out the Bleeding Edge but I couldnt find this particular make. Also, should I be trying a 10 multi? Thanks a lot!
  5. BF2 is smooth like butter at full settings and 1920x1200. Im at 113%VDC 11x235 after a couple iterations. I may tweak some more in a couple weeks, thanks for the help. grusse:)
  6. im back in windows!!! Thanks for the help guys. Time to try out BF2:)
  7. Thanks for the help Gipse. Your advice worked fine. The sticks are recognised now, but as PC400 sticks. Memtest looks good, I did test 1 and 8 and figured, lets try to boot. Im getting the Message "Failed to load operating system". The first place it should look is the hard disk... oh boy... just realised... I have my operating system on a SATA! Lemme go back and try something. Clearing CMOS mighta changed somethin...
  8. Bios is kinda old... 1/25/2005 some other stuff from the boot screen thats probably useless: NF CK8046A61FD49C-00 V6.00PG I can try playin around with different slots... but could it be that my voltage is too low for these guys? I have stock voltage at the moment. thanks, Patrick
  9. I got the ram delivered and put it into the orange slots. Im getting a long beep which repeats itself. 3 of the 4 diagnosis LEDs are on. Do I have to upgrade my bios to see these sticks? 2048MB DDRRAM OCZ PC500 Dual Channel Platinum XTC
  10. Damn, found another one, 20€s cheaper... which do you guys recommend? 2048MB DDRRAM OCZ PC500 Dual Channel Platinum XTC 500MHz DDR CL 3-3-3-8 CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS 2GB 2x1024 Dual Channel Kit Unbuffered Mirrored Platinum XTC Heatspreader 2.8 Volts 184 Pin DIMM
  11. OK, found one that fits the bill. I didnt realise that the PC500 came at 250Mhz standard! Im not the best overclocker with this board and it`ll be nice to strap it in and only have to worry about the processor. Costs about 272€ but if it means smooth BF2 and a jump in processor speed, why not:) OCZ DDR-RAM 2x1024MB PC500 CL3 DDR1 EB Platinum Enhancend Bandwith - Dual channel. Die Module sind optimiert für den Betrieb auf DDR-Dual channel Mainboards. Spez. DDR500, Timings bei 2,8V VDimm: 3-3-2-8. Heatspreader aus vernickeltem Kupfer. 2 X 1024MB
  12. Im over in Germany and the only one I could find at the moment is A-DATA DIMM 2 GB DDR-500 Kit Cant find the Mushkin for the life of me. Here is the link: http://shop.cssc.de/produktinformationen.p...18767&partner=1 Is PC4000 really going to make the difference? The timings are a bit slower.
  13. Damn you guys are fast... Here are 4 possibilities with OCDB, am I on the right track? 14. Got two problems: a) Im playing BF2 at 1920x1200 with a 7900gt(not updated in SIG). With everything on high its jumpy(especially the first few minutes) and according to the BF2 forums, I need 2GBs. B) My OCZ RAM is at 224MHz and Im OK with it. Id love to get 240 since my Venice 3500+ is underutilized. So.......... Should I sell my 2x512MB and get a 2x1GB kit? Ive search through Sharps sticky a bit but couldnt figure out which one. Or should I buy a 4x512MB kit(if there is one)? If anyone has been successful with a particular 2GB overclocker to 240MHz, Id love to here about it. thanks, Patrick
  15. Been following this thread since I wanna upgrade to a X2 from a 3500+. But Jenkins` problem has got me scared sh**less. Can I assume that upgrading without a fresh install is hit-and-miss as far as stability is concerned? Sorry for the semi-hijack! Patrick
