  1. I don't think it's an overclocking issue. I've run stock speed and I still get this problem about half the time I start the computer. Also, for the first month I overclocked this I ran faster than I do now and didn't have the problem. It just started one day. I have a Razer Diamondback but I haven't heard anyone else having problems like this.
  2. I've been having the same problem. I get it randomly and I'm using a USB Razer mouse. I had a logitech 300 before and it also happened. I've tried using different USB ports. Could it be a power issue? I tried bumping up the mb voltage but it didn't help. Anything else to try?
  3. Thanks for the info. I'll definately be careful of the fan. At full speed it sounds like it's gonna die already.
  4. 5231 with my crappy 6% overclock. Speaking of which, why is mine so much lower than everyone else's for a X800XL? Seems like everyone is running over 6000.
  5. no prob, i figured that's what you meant just makin' sure. I didn't actually miss the link I just wasn't sure if he was still selling it. Tried messaging him but no response yet. If I can get a hold of some shin-etsu I'll definately try it on the chipset. Can I just take the heatsink fan off and do the cleaning with some alcohol while the board is still mounted? I wasn't sure exactly how to go about applying shin-etsu to a chipset.
  6. mine is also a screamer from day one. It hits 56 full load. Even when the fan isn't at max speed it's the loudest part of my computer. I'm going to try shin-etsu.
  7. x-90 for the motherboard chipset???
  8. Does anyone know of a good source to purchase a tube of shin etsu? I bought a combo from monarch and they applied the shin-etsu that came with my thermaltake venus but unfortunately they didn't throw in the leftovers and I want to use it for my motherboard chipset since the damn thing is running at 55c under load. Also, is there a good fan/heatsink I could replace the stock one with that would help? I don't want to do any mods or anything so please no fan/heatsinks that will require me to do any sanding or anything like that.
  9. do I need to take out the soundcard to test it out or can i just disable it in winxp and enable the onboard sound?
  10. I have my computer running mostly stable. It passes all the memtests, prime etc. for 10+ hours without any problems. I have been getting a large number of programs locking up. Not tons but more than I would expect to get on a good solid computer. The worst problem I've had is HL2. At first I got a very occasional lockup but now it's getting worse and worse. Whenever it goes I get sound errors - it sounds like screecthing usually. Any ideas on what it could be? I tried reinstalling the game and at one point I did WinXP from scratch. Could it be a sound card problem? It's gotten so bad that today after i reinstalled HL2 I went from occasional crashes to the point where it would lock up on the first screen in the game. I got some errors that sounded memory related. Now I can't even get into the game - as soon as I load it up I get this Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 00477909: Attempt to read from virtual address 1172044 without appropriate access rights. Any ideas on what I should try? The computer is overclocked as in my signature, the X800 is completely stock and all my drivers are installed.
  11. I'll give it a try. Wonder why it doesn't work the way it is though? Really strange for such a large company to have it not work for so many of us. thanks
  12. so no additional drivers/programs will help with any settings? I wasn't planning on using quiet mode (if they have it) but I would like to see what they do have if anything.
  13. I'm having the exact same problem. I'm not a computer noob - this thing just won't boot. I've tried different burn programs, media etc. It's just not booting - seems to think it's a floppy drive too, which I don't have.
  14. along those lines I have a raptor question. Is there anything I should do as far as bios settings or extra drivers to get the raptor to perform better? I don't have a raid setup and it does seem a bit faster than a regular IDE driver but it's not THAT much faster although about 5 times louder. My SATA II Hitachi 250 drive has all these settings for quiet mode, S.m.a.r.t. and spectrum spread - anything like that for SATA I?
  15. perhaps I can help a bit as I have the Fortron 550w you're talking about. It's fine, quiet and I don't think is causing any problems. The only thing that bums me a bit is that it only has 1 native SATA connector, which is annoying as I have 2 SATA drives. It does have an adaptor though. It has dual 18A rails I believe and 550 watts. The fortron blue is really something like 450 watts - seems to me you're better off getting the 550 watt one. Oh quick question if anyone knows - is it better to use a legacy power connector on a SATA drive (has legacy on it as well as SATA) or use the legacy->sata adaptor and plug it into the new sata power port?
