  1. Oh crap, I read somewhere that windows needs SP2 to recognize a harddrive that size. Is this true?
  2. This is a really weird situation but let me tell you guys how it started. I have a hitachi deskstar SATA 3.0 250 gigabyte drive and I wanted to dedicate a 20 gig partition to linux so I booted up partition magic and attempted to create the separate parition. About 80% through, the partition failed. I ran chkdsk first to fix whatever issues on my harddrive and the next time I started up, Windows XP reported that same 20 gigs missing out of 250! So okay, I said that's fine, I'll just format my whole harddrive and install everything from scratch. That didn't seem to work either because the windows XP installation said I have 130 gigs out of 250 free. Now the funny thing is that partition magic shows the space correctly, the linux installation shows it correctly but windows does not! Please help me, I need to get this straight as soon as possible.
  3. I have found this thread using the search feature: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ht=driver+order he states: " Once in windows you must install the following and in this order # SP2 if it is not integrated to your CD. (download full installer here, burn it to a cd) Get SP2 here # Restart and install the nVidia chipset drivers, (You could burn it to the SP2 CD). Get nVidia chipset drivers here - Do not install the nvidia firewall/network access manager software - Do not install the IDE SW driver - Do not install the Audio driver if you are using a PCI soundcard * Note, if you install these Audio drivers you do not need to install the RealTek ones. # Restart the PC and wait a bit" I want to know if I should follow that or if it's okay to do any other order. Also, should I install directx before or after video drivers?
  4. I have decided to do a format and clean install of windows XP. Since it has been a while, I want to make sure I have the install order correct of the drivers/utilities and etc to prevent further problems. With that said, what order should I install the drivers? Should Nf4 chipset drivers come first? Thanks in advance.
  5. That doesn't work either :/ Also, I went to the Steam site and it had a solution for the audio stuttering/looping problem which was to lower the hardware acceleration in sound for directx. I noticed that the problem was gone when I lowered it or kept it off. Are there any downsides to keeping Hardware acceleration off?
  6. Yeah, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still the same problem. I've also tried using the older ATI drivers and still no luck. Is there any way to reinstall directx?
  7. Hey everyone, I've been playing CS:source for a while with no problems and until recently I took a break from playing it. It was running fine with no problems at all. When I try to play it now, there have been quite some audio issues I've encountered. Whenever, I try to fire any gun, it actually makes the shooting noise twice. I've tried uninstalling CS:source, updating to the latest AC97 audio and I'm still getting the same problems. Maybe I can try using the Nvidia Nforce sound instead of the other one. I'm not exactly sure what it is but in almost every game, the framerates are much slower for some reason. Maybe it's because some of the codecs I've installed. I've tried the search function and it seems no one else has issues. Any help will be appreciated.
  8. Just curious, is there any advantage with NCQ being enabled?
  9. I believe there was a similar problem with the hitachi feature tool, it specified the wrong drive name and you have to edit the autoexec.bat file to your cd rom drive. Open the file with notepad and replace the drive it specifies with the name of your drive. Then save the file and replace the original with the autoexec.bat file you made. After that you can burn with your autoexec.bat and it should work. If you don't know what i'm talking about refer to this thread which gives detailed instructions. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...hitachi+feature
  10. Excuse me if this has already been answered, Exactly what kind of motherboards support the x2 processors? I didn't know the Ultra-D supports it.
  11. The Hitachi Deskstar T7k250 is awesome and like the guy said above me, it's gotten excellent reviews and is relatively quiet. The burst speeds on these things are amazing, look at Angry_Games "hard drives & raid - benchmark and compare!" thread in the off-topic section.
  12. Try the realtek audio drivers, fixed all my problems.
  13. "Well, if there are newer drivers at nVidia's site, isn't it logical to download the newer ones?" Not quite, I have encountered problems with my NEC3520a on the newer drivers. So it's not 100% for each, you just have to experiment and see which one works best.
  14. I'll keep it "safe" for you hehehe. Honestly, as long as you cover it up or put it where there is no dust, it should be fine. I'm also that paraniod about my computer, whenver I see dust getting on the case, I wipe it immediately.
  15. I believe it's a problem with the Nforce audio drivers, try installing the RealTek AC97 drivers. I had the same problem with videolan and that nasty noise freaked the crap out of me, it can really make someone deaf. Before you install the drivers, try disabling float32 output in the preferences under modules->audio output-> waveout and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, go with the latest RealTek AC97 drivers and that should fix your problem. There is really no quality difference between the two drivers. Edit: oops almost forgot, here's the download site: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/2153
