  1. by the looks of the pics of the naked 3500, i'd say that specific shim probably wont work. the capacitors would get in the way of the one end of it.
  2. every one of you who has posted amd pwns intel, or something of the like, really needs to wake up. would you have the same opinion if your entire salary depended on rendering as much frames of video as possible in a day? just saying amd is better is foolish. that's like saying a knife is better than your toothbrush. Sure, it might be for cutting your steak, but what happens when you need to brush your teeth, is the knife still better? harsh metaphor, i'm aware, but it gets the point across. ps - is it just me, or does every time someone makes a post such as mine get followed by the exact comment it referrs to (i'd bet this post is followed by another AMD cheerleader tossing their amd pompoms around).
  3. can forget the abit, it's only got 2 dimm slots...too bad, it's an otheriwse excellent looking board.
  4. hmmm, never considered the nv-8, i've been told to avoid abit (yet another company that i thought was good) possibly i'll look into that board, but im thinking DFI is my safest bet...
  5. hmmm, sounds like dfi it is. too bad it's so ugly (can't really complain, the asus heap i have right now is equally as ugly) and only has 10/100 (no gigabit)
  6. i realized asus had gone to poop lately, but their k8 boards really ARE garbage. nothing but issues with this board (k8n4-e). So now that i have the fun job of returning this mobo i bought, and losing some money in the process i'd imagine, what would you guy's recommend of these two: Gigabyte GA-K8NE (clicky) DFI Infinity NF4X (link) I would ideally like to run at around a 270ish HTT, so i know many would automatically say the DFi (not to mention everybody and their dog is a DFI fanboy) but aesthetically, the gigabyte looks much better, and has gigabit lan. Would there be decent odd's fo the Gigabyte hitting an HTT around 260-270 and what's both companies reputations/tech support like? i must say, i am impressed with my sapph gto2, oc'd nicely (600/1200) but i didnt unlock the pipes yet, just in case it would have to go back. Gonna make sure it works in my new board first. ps - if anyone says anything about going 939 for pci-e, i'll lose all faith in humanity. Cant afford it. Not gonna happen. End of story. I have 754, and there's pci-e 754 boards, it just makes sense, ok?
  7. depends on your use....you generally would want to avoid overclocking a server, but if it's just a folding box or something, go for it...
  8. not sure exactly what it's worth, but you'd get more money if you part it all out... i may be interested in the psu if you decide to do that..
  9. lol, i have no troubles following videocard trends, but it consumes entirely too much of my life to do lol...i wish we were back in the old 2/6/8 np/pro/xt days
  10. doesnt exist, sounds like it's either sdr sdram (pc133) or else ddr266. iirc, pc2100 is the slowest ddr sdram... could be wrong tho..
  11. lol, i couldnt figure out if this is a mobo, processor, or ram question, so it goes here... 1) so if you run 4 DIMMs you gotta run 2T. is this for 3 DIMMs as well, or jsut 4 (ie. is 1-2 dimms 1t, and then 3 or more needs 2t?) I got a 754, so i can't run 2t, does this mean i can't use all three dimm slots? 2) would it be more beneficial to me to loosen the timings a bit and increase the HTT? ie. 2x512mb @ 240fsb @ 2.5-2-2-5 or 2x512mb + 1x1GB @ like 260+ @ 3-3-3-8 or something like that 3) i've heard of memory controllers on the a64's dying, how much risk is there of my mem controller dying if i would go to like a 260-280ish fsb?
  12. a guy i know has one of these fans. He made a box which it is mounted in, then it has 3 dryer-hose type deals coming out, and going into the side of his case over the gpu, cpu, and hard drive. Slient and effective.
  13. sounds like you've jsut cranked the agp bus voltage, which wont actually help you in overclocking anyways. You should read up on this stuff before doing something like this as increasing any voltage on a computer can be potentially dangerous. Clear your CMOS, that should fix the problem. And from now on, leave agp bus voltage at 1.5v, 3.3v, or w/e the standard for your cards is. The only way to increase voltage on a vid card to get better o/c'ing is to do some sort of voltmod.
  14. oddly enough, i had ordered new ram (got some pc4000 ballistix) and i didnt have the problem. I wonder if that fixed it, i should probly test the old ram before i sell that stuff. But the ram is like 6-8mts old not overclocked, you'd think it'd have shown up before now.
