  1. Yeah it is confusing. Media Centre Edition is essentially XP Pro with the Media addition. Its another one of those things that MS didnt tidy up before the product rolled.
  2. Strange, I have a Plextor SATA DVD drive on my UltraD and all I did was plug it in and it worked perfectly first time. Didnt install any drivers to make it work. When I check it in Device Manager its using the MS driver from 2001.
  3. I remember a couple of years ago at work my colleagues wanted a new set of workstations. They ordered 8 of them and begged and screamed that they had to have 4gb of ram in them as they would definately need it etc. etc. Anyway we got the machines and they worked a treat. They laughed at me that I was so wrong that we only needed a gig in them. Anyway a few weeks later I stayed behind at work and whipped three gig out of all them and hid the ram somewhere safe. It was over a month before the first one noticed and that was only because he wanted to check what CPU it had under My Computer. He who laughs last.......
  4. Yes it probably is a ferrite core filter. I use several of them in my PC. I have one large one on the main power feed into the motherboard and a couple more smaller ones on the other power inputs. One of those things that technically they do work but you probably will never notice the difference. No harm in them.
  5. Hmmm havent posted for a while as everythings been cool. Just having a look through to see whats new. I'm still running the 310 bios. Worth going to 623?
  6. Hmm but as I asked the last time for the 6.66 is there any actual benefit or noticable performance increase? I take it not.
  7. Shame they havent done as much work to the IDE drivers but there you go. Nice to hear they have at least done something vaguely positive for a change. Will I be installing them? Probably not.
  8. I'm running just fine with D43 Hynix. The one thing that got it stable was pushing the DRAM drive strength to the max. I'm in Orange slots with the ol' 310 bios.
  9. Yeah I had a similar problem when I tried to slipstream SP2 into my SP1 XP Pro. The process worked fine but once I installed the OS using the slipstreamed version I kept getting told that some files were older/newer/incompatible etc. everytime it rebooted. GAve up in the end and did it the old fashioned way.Though I did create an version with all the old legacy crap removed which worked ok.
  10. No you dont need a previous version to be installed. You just need a previous version CD so it can verify you have a earlier version. It will prompt you to check. Much better!
  11. Restoring a Delorean = endless money pit. Really, stay well away, those cars are truly awful. Poor build, poor performance, poor components. Just poor!
  12. I used 2.5-5-5-9 which is the default for my ram at 250. Didnt bother trying anything else as I went back to 220Mhz a few days later just because I felt better about it. Appeared to work fine for the time I used it at 250.
  13. I had probs with Test 7 with my hynix. I pushed the DRAM drive strength to max with 2.7v and it will sail through over and over (well at least 3 runs as I have better things to do). I'm using 310 bios with the orange slots.
  14. Well the Auto setting for the ram are fairly tight to start with so if you wanted to could leave those alone. You wont make much of a noticable performance increase messing with those. I stress the word noticable.
  15. I have the Hynix D43 DDR500 ram and its strange stuff. I can get it to run at 250 fine (which is its stock speed) and it will run fine at 220 and lower. However, it will not work at any speed inbetween. I havent tried higher than 250. But I like the look of the stuff and I can always flog it to an Intel lover on Ebay if I want to change. It will do fine for now.
