  2. Hi All, still having probs with sys crashing at desktop and in games. Installed a newer ver of xp prof with service pack 2 streamlined. still crashes!!!! Tried installing ide hdd instead of sata drive............seems stable so far??!! prob then may be down to the sata windows controller??? How do i get hold of the 1007 version? is this the latest version? is it also worth flashing the sata controller? Tried going to the sil image web site for the driver but they only have ver 1.00?? thx _lee
  3. Thats strange...a simular thing happened to me. I used to have a ASUS 40x cdrom. system would only select pio regardless of primary or secondary master (hdd on sata)i couldnt enable dma with windows own ide driver or anything higher than pio with nvidia ide driver? I'v recently changed the drive to the new dvd 16X ASUS cdrom drive, it works a dream. Very fast data transfer dma mode 5
  4. Ok my sys is still crashing after increasing the cpu voltage to 1.675 and 1.7 ....but not as much as it used to! so i belive i maybe on to something here!(call it a hunch!) What voltage do you recommend i increase my memory to? it may help dont you think? I know i should be applying the windows service patch, but to do that i will have to reinstall using an uptodate windows xp prof which i'll be getting soon...i dont really want to do this yet as i will be a lot of hassle to me. anyways i dont think it will help me with THIS kind of problem ( i realize i could be wrong) Many thanks as always. -lee
  5. i think i may of solved the problem! i notice that the cpu voltage was switching between 1.62 and 1.64 volts. These cpu's need 1.65 dont they? anyways i'v upped it a notch. voltage now between 1.64 and 1.66 So far so good!!!!!! not crashes...been running half life 2 for about 2 hours with no crashing!!!!! BTW what voltage should i get the mem to? is it worth upping the cpu voltage to 1.7?? Why does the board under voltage the cpu slighty?
  6. Hi A.G, no not as yet. I'm awaiting a new windows xp with service pack 2 built in. Will keep you informed.
  7. i'm going to try the latest driver also. Is it worth flashing the latest bios for the controller as well?
  8. still crashing!!!!!!!! updated to latest bios. I'm at a lost of what to do? i just dont understand why i'm having so much probs with this board?
  9. Thx guys for all your valuable input!!!!! yes i'm running 1:1 ratio. Temps are 40-45 c for cpu and case (when idel). 49-50 c for cpu an case when full load. The temps seem reasonable do you think? Will check out that thread and flash to latest bios, thxs
  10. mmMM divider...not sure, i'll go and check....what does it do?? Checked mem with mem386...passed with flying colours
  11. Hi thanks for the picture.......well at least i'm running in dual mode. I thought i had fixed it but it still crashes!! dont know when i can sort out the service patch as i have a invalid product key, although it was valid when microsoft gave it to us? You mentioned other drivers???? what do you suggest? Do you think i wont be able to get help until i sort out the service patch? although i cant see it making any difference to my problem? what do you think. many thanks for all your help!!!!!
  12. I think i'v solved the problem!!! I'v been connecting the dual memory to dimms 1 and 2 !!!! not dimm 1 and 3 seemed logical to use 1 and 2 because they were set close together. 1st time i'v installed a dual channel m/board. i feel i complete fool!!!! sorry to have wasted your time
  13. just been reading the 'memory post probs' post, maybe i havent connected the memory to the right sockets?!?! i have them connected to dimm 1 and dimm2. Should it be dimm1 and dimm3 for dual channel?
  14. I just thought, shouldnt i be seeing a 'dual channel' mem enabled message as the sys boots?
