  1. Im sure this has been asked hundreds of times but... My question is, should i install XP onto a 10gig partition on my 7200rpm IDE drive, then leave my SATA open for games and Apps, and If doing so will this improve my gaming and general everyday usage? Also take into consideration that ill have my backup and music on the IDE, so everynow and then during everyday use ill have the music playing, would this cause some slow down. Just wondering because ive never used that configeration before, and its getting real close to that time of month (reformat time). Thanks guys, i look forward to your comments
  2. Prior to the fix, i could probley get about ten minutes of net browsing then a crash, 5 minutes of music then a glitch and a crash, 20 minutes of online gaming and then either a crash or kicked off because of lan probs. My mouse would freak out all over the desktop, my keyboard would only work every other time i booted up...i wanted to die. I can happily report that all of my lan dropouts, crash's, freezing, sound problems are cured, thanks to this fix (at least so far, i dont want to cross all of my fingers). Ive been running hot for two days, thru testing and games, surfing the net and listening to music, all without any problems. I highly recomend this fix for anyone with the above problems. A huge thanks to whomever discovered this.
  3. I had my pc on for about 6 or more hours last night, playing Call of Duty online, and not a single glitch, freeze, sound issue, or drop-out. The ACPI fix indeed saved me from killing myself. haha, its the fix ive been hoping for, for a long time. Ill continue testing, and of coarse killing poor bastards online waiting for anything to occur, but so far so good. Thanks everyone.
  4. Last night i checked out the lan dropout_non heat related thread, and gave it a try, i figured if it f*cks up oh well ill just reformat and try some diffrent drivers. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...=&threadid=1242 So i changed from ACPI uniprocessor PC to Advanced Configuration and power interface PC, rebooted a few times and let windows reinstall what the hell ever it had to install. After 2 hours of download music, while playing music, and surfing the net, it never once froze up on me, and the music never skipped. Ive not really had the time to test it at all, but no probs. in two hours is way more assuring than crashing every 5 minutes. On another note, i swaped my memory around, and ran memtest for about half an hour per stick, without a single error with both sticks. Good news, although i should test longer. One Question though, i know ive got single channel mem, i put one stick in slot one and the other in 3, which enables duel channel. By running single channel mem in duel channel mode am i at risk for a crap up? I doubt there is any performance gain, but it is stable, that i know of... A huge thanks to everyone who has responded. Ill get back to ya, wheather or not its stable
  5. I tried adjusting my mem timings, and it worked well for a while, but just recently ive been having more of the same problems. Music is choppy, internet slows down or stops responding. The computer will "jitter" basically, the sound freaks out then all is well, or it will freak out, and stop responding all together. Could this be data corruption? Driver problems? because i never had this many problems occur so persistantly with older versions of the nforce drivers? Im not all too eager to reformat my system, but at this point its really my best bet. yes its a locked barton. But im not all too concerned with overclocking, when the system wont run stable when im just listening to music and surfing the net.
  6. Hmm, well these are my settings, would have posted them earlier but i was @ work. Im still freezing up while gaming, could be heat but the higest it gets is about 114 f plus or minus? i dunno? FSB = 174 AGP = 66, latency 32, apature 128 (tried 256 did me no good) cpu ratio = default (13 w/my barton) set it to x13 and got the BSOD. mem = 1:1 @ 6,2,2,2,2.0,13,15 CPC is off ~Voltages~ What ive been able to boot with since work cpu = 1.85 agp = 1.80 chipset = 1.80 dram = 2.70 Any ideas? Thanks guys i appreciate the help.
  7. Sorry i should have included more info. I did install updated drivers for my Audigy LS, and it did correct the problem with songs skipping, and repeated lock-ups. Although ive still had a couple of lock-ups over the past couple of days. Im using XP SP1, with all the available upgrades. I did use the USB drivers off the cd, then installed the latest USB drivers, v1.1 or something like that, and have not had any problems with my mouse or keyboard. Again heat is not an issue, ive got a 90mm fan blowing evenly across the north and south bridge, as well as a standard desk-top fan, blowing directly into the side of my open case (im in phoenix, gotta do it) and more fans everwhere else... My main concern is my memory being out of sync with my cpu, and it may be the center of my problems. I sent back one of my corsair pc3500 433mhz XMS sticks, and in return i got a 400mhz pc3200 stick, so now ive got one of each (a single 256 stick of 433mhz, and the 256mb 400mhz stick). My cpu is 333 mhz. any suggestions? new processor, send back my other 433mhz stick of ram for another 400mhz? Thanks
  8. Hello all, its been a while since i last had any probs, but their back. After having tons of trouble with my Western Digital IDE HD's, i bought a new WD 35gig SATA, and swaped one of my IDE's with a friends maxtor. After having read that i should not install the IDE drivers even with a WD sata i havnt, although i did install all the other drivers (gart, usb, the works) Well now im noticing glitchs in everyday use. 1. Every other time i boot, either my keyboard (usb) or mouse (usb) dont work, thats not too bad, just reboot and usually they work. 2. Most of the time that i try using my internet, its slower than dial-up, or just wont respond at all. Possibly gart or my ethernet drivers? 3. When im playing my music off my IDE drive, its been skipping. 4. Sometimes my system will just freeze. My system temps are nothing to worry about. Im not overclocking. Using the most recent drivers 5.10 i believe. 6/19 bois. I would appreciate any help, or incite to these probs. Thanks.
  9. Well its want timings or voltages causing me all my grief (just some of it). I finially installed and ran memtest, and to my surprise one of my sticks is screwed up. Id suggest the same to anyone else with random lock ups, and games shutting down. Luckily its Corsair with their lifetime warranty woo hoo. Thanks for the support, mucho appreciated.
  10. I should explain my dilema a bit better. My cpu is locked so i cant adjust my multipliers, and if i try and overclock to run at my memory's recomended speed of 433mhz my . will just overheat. (Summer time in Phoenix is hell inside and out). And besides i will only bottlneck myself with my slower processor of 333mhz. I need to find that happy medium. Any suggestions?
  11. Thanks, That did help a bit, however im still unable to keep it stable in games. This may be in part to the difference in mhz between my cpu (333mhz) and memory (433mhz), i read elsware i should try running my memory at 333mhz so as not to create a bottleneck at my chipset. Could you give me a little guidance on how to run my memory at 333mhz?
  12. Hey guys, Im having problems with games shutting themselves down every 15 min or so, ive read this may be due to the fact that there isnt enough juice going to my agp, and may also be an issue w/ my memory. I need some advise on how to adjust my voltages. Where should i begin? If i were @ home id play around with it myself, but id prefer some good advise. DRAM is the only 1 ive modified to 1.80v on expert w/ default settings Should i have cpu thermal throttling enabled? Ive read not too, but that was for a older board of mine. Let me know if you need more info, id gladly look it up
  13. Id just flash, and reformat...i flashed for my first time last week, and its pretty straight forward.
  14. In the process of installing my brand spanking new Lanparty NFII Ulta B, i managed to accidently format my backup drive and install windows to it...oops, well now windows cannot see this drive no matter what jumper settings i use (cable select, master, slave). The same goes for boot order (currently drive 0, then drive 1 and cdrom). The funny thing is that the bios see's the drive yet windows does not. All i want to do is to format it, and make it my slave drive... Any ideas?
  15. Thanks elts for confirming that I am a moron, i better start drinking AFTER i install windows. heh. Mucho apprectiated
