  1. Bill, you can say that again!!! The Asrock 939 DSII was such a great performer with a lot of flexibility and the price was a near steal. And yet despite its overall greatness, its glory days were shortened by AMDs decision to pull out the 939 line. What a waste .... my Venice 3000+ could easily do 3 ghz without a sweat. 2.7 - 2.8 ghz was 24/7. For benching I did a max of 350 x9 = 3.15 ghz !!!! Many of the more expensive DFI mbs were shamed by its performance.
  2. I have an Asrock 939 dual Data and its still okay at over a year now. It is rock solid at 2.8 ghz on a venice 3000+. I could even bench it at 345 x 9 or 3.1 ghz and still surf, listen to music or screen capture.
  3. Could not agree more!! Invest in a good PSU and overclocks become little easier. I changed a good psu, an antec truepower 550w, because I could not resist the temptation of a $75 bargain. This was a 600-watt Delta Electronics server psu which provides 4, 12-volt rails of 16 amps each and has active pfc. It weighs twice the antec and even if the power lines flicker which is not uncommon here the psu holds steady. Solely on the psu change alone, I was able to gain 8-10 mhz on the htt.
  4. Stability and performance ? The problem with prime95 .... it takes too long and does not fully cover the video side or subsystem. I have had a good number of overnight successes with prime95 only to find out that my rig won't last hours upon hours of gaming. Fortunately I still have a 10 year old kid who could go on the whole weekend playing games ... my ultimate tester. My favorite is 1. OCCT running together with 3dMark2001se or 2. Super_pi 32M plus 3dMark2001se. If the rig completes either one .... in my experience I have yet to see a failure in an overnight Prime95 or hours on hours of gaming using my ultimate tester. The beauty of it ..... it only takes about 30 minutes of testing!!! Just my opinion and personal experience.
  5. Nice look!!! ... and still the same nice guys .... More Power !!!!
  6. Well said and I must admit AG has a way with words. Now, this is not to sound cute or worse .... Stupid, but could someone tell me what the "N" word is??? I have already been educated regarding the "F" word. If it's too offensive ... can someone PM me ....please !?!?
  7. The irrepressible pride and happiness of a mother!!! Congratulations !!
  8. Hi mursaat, Thanks for the guide .... definitely something I must do one of these days I have a chaotic, directory-file system that only I can decipher! My weired idea of security... Thanks!!!
  9. Quite effective .... i have been using it for several months. Has brought down my idling temps >5 degrees. BTW, idling also includes surfing and typing .... my temps have been really lower even with such activities.
  10. Maraming Salamat din ! (Many thanks too !) It seems you have thought it over very well. But really, there is no future proof in computers and the term future seems to be becoming shorter and shorter. I think it all boils down to personal satisfaction. I fully agree with G-Code that it will be difficult to squeeze more out of your present rig. For others, that is where the fun lies, squeezing the last mhz. I am not into games, but I feel that a reasonably fast processor, plenty of memory and a spunky video card is the formula for future proofing, I think. My satisfaction? More simple things ... surfing, typing, printing, burning, some video editing ... and most of all squeezing the ghost out of cheap processors and motherboards !! hahhahaa I just made a trial run at 334x9 for an astounding 3 ghz. from a Venice 3000+ and boy ... am I exhilirated !!!! Happy tweaking....
  11. Good afternoon .... at magandang araw sa iyo !!! (in Filipino).. If you feel your English is poor, then that would be the understatement of the year !! Read how some of the Joes and the Brits here mangle their language in their posts and you will feel much better already. English is also my second language and Spanish is a poor third. If I had $250 US, I'll move on .... and that is a lot of money in both our countries. With due respect and indulgence to Travis, Rgone, and the others here, I was also facing the same problem of being midstream. I was also facing the problem that DFI is expensive and difficult to secure here. So, I opted for a compromise ... something I can use both ways ... agp and pcie and with sataII. With $180 I took an Asrock 939 dual SataII and an athlon64, venice 3000+ (1.8ghz) with dhe6 stepping. It was a good decision ... I am humming flawlessly now at 2.9 ghz from a lowly athlon64 3000+ ! That would be 323x9 !! I will be going for 3 ghz with a simple volt mod. Of course if DFI is easily available and reasonably priced, go for it!! I am convinced that it has the better features overall ..
  12. Moving from a non-overclocked 1800+ to a 2800+ will give satisfactory improvements in most parameters. What your friend probably meant was that an overclocked 1800+ which may do 2.2-2.4 ghz will not be of much difference to overclocked 2500+ which may do 2.3-2.6 ghz. Or for that matter other higher rated xps will top off at 2.4 to 2.6 ghz. Some mild differences at the most. If you want to aqueeze the most out of your Infinity, get a mobile 2500 or 2600 if there are still any available and apply the tweaks which you can easily search in many threads here. Good luck !!
  13. Wow !!! loggan26 .... Charlie22911 Your mobile XPs will smoke many athlon64s.... I regretted waiting too long to order one from Newegg and when I decided this december as an in-law went to the US ... stocks were out. I could be running my Infinity at 2.5 ghz and finally get a sig!!! Now its a little too late and impractical for that. Superbly done !!!!
  14. Hhhmmmmnnn....... Well I guess your friend is stuck with your 6600 and your stuck with his 6800! The frustrations that things give us !!!! And you seem to have done what should be done. This reminds me of an earlier problem with my kid's epox 8rda+ ver -2.1, an nf2 mb. We had done everything humanly possible to make a 9800pro vc work in it, spending almost 3 months with various schemes imaginable. Yet, no dice! It would be choosy with games; some it would allow several hours of playing, some only a few minutes ..... all would end up with a crash and a reset. I have consulted many of my "geeky" friends here who have proposed countless solutions to no avail. Finally, I gave up !! I did not have the guts to rma the vc a 3rd time in 3 months!!! Gave it to his younger brother who also has an epox 8rda+ ver2.1 and it has been humming smoothly for over a year now, tolerating binges with games lasting almost 24 hours at a time. My other kid's epox ended up with an older 9700pro which just works as fine.
  15. Agree with your other thoughts about Christmas ... that it need not be lonely. Speaking of tradition, there is one among us Filipinos which we call the noche buena .... the thanksgiving meal after the midnight mass. Let me just quote from my previous thread "To All My Friends".....
