Hey there, Finally. I'm on lay-off till spring again. What a year to forget ..........:eek: I'm looking at using IPCop in building a router to enable VPN and more importantly, "secure' DMZ port(s). I know, I know. I just used "secure' and "DMZ' in the same sentence. But it's the securing/hardening of the DMZ ports that I have the most concern with and hence my asking you kind folks. Anyone here have any thoughts or experiences with IPCop, or any other open-source? pfSense, mOnOwall, etc ? pfSense can run in VMWare which I might consider a bonus as I have the hardware to support a rather heavily loaded machine. Shamefully, communicating with elected officials/representitives doesn't happen with anywhere near the frequency it should. Most pull a lever on voting day and that's that. ___ And not in arguing with Ex, but most voters don't feel organized enough to accomplish these things they believe need changed/altered in calling their Representitives. JUST DO IT! Call your elected officials and voice your opinion(s!) else organized money will continue to dominate over the people.

Be aware...be very aware. A "heads up" for you and any friends who may be regular Home Depot customers. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 18 or 19-year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield down with a rag and Windex, their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Home Depot. You agree and they get in the back seat. On the way, they start having . with each other. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and performs oral . on you, while the other one steals your wallet. I have had my wallet stolen November 4th, 9th, and 10th. Twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, and 28th. Three times just yesterday. And likely again this upcoming weekend or as soon as I can buy some more wallets.

I'll jump in here and second uneedav8's sentiments. Two different animals. Spend their limit's for a decent Quadro or FireGL with as much ram as they're willing to afford and pump 'em if there's a decent model directly above the pricing point/limit. Assuming they're using quality monitors to match one of the above cards abilities and they're critical of what they do, they'll thank you for it. Edit: Might even find out what program they do use and check for suppport/compatability betweenst them.

Had a Broadcom chip based one and wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. Sold it and replaced it with a Syba SD-SA2PEX-2E PCI-e(1x) to E-Sata card in my 150 machine. This card is amazingingly fast for only a 2-port controller. It's damn near as fast as my $260 LaCie 4-port E-Sata PCI-e(8x) card in my 185 at 1/9the the price. Port Multiplier ready using a SiL3132 chip, and RAID5 capable too with a BIOS update. Short answer to are PCI-E NICs worth it; Keep looking.
