Hey everyone. I am about to upgrade my mobo/CPU/RAM and Win XP to Win 7. I have 2 questions regarding the upgrade: 1. I already know I have to re-format my boot drive. How big should I make the partition (I am booting off of a 5000GB drive). 2. For those drives that are non-boot (I have 3), once I replace the components and get Win 7 installed, can i just pop those guys into the SATA ports and be good to go without losing any data? Is there something else I need to do with those? Thanks for your help.

I can't find a replacement fan anywhere I spent about an hour looking

Hey everyone. I'm looking to upgrade my system, as its been a while and the fan on my nForce chipset is dying. My current build is in my signature. As you can probably guess, I have not used this rig for gaming in quite some time and now I mainly use it as a HTPC (no room for a desk in my current living situation). I plan on keeping everything except the CPU/mobo/RAM (I don't think I need to upgrade my video card based on what I'm using it for). Currently running win XP, but will upgrade to win 7 with the new system. I have always been an AMD guy, but am open to and Intel build if the price/performance point is better. I purchased the following combo for my brother last Christmas for a system i built him and was curious if this is still a good option for me: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

OK so what would be my best bet then; an 8800GT? I'm not positive but wouldn't I need a new mobo to do ATI? I don't plan on spending $400 on a video card I was just saying, unless monitor prices drop, $400 is standard for a legit 22+". Again, I play mostly RPG games so I don't need top of the line to make sure my games run smooth and at high res. And YES this will eventually be going into a mid range C2D rig eventually. Just looking for a replacement for my 6800GT that will last me a bit...

Noted; however, my buddy just bought a new dell with onboard video and wants to buy my card so I need a new one. Sorry for the lack of info. I will be upgrading my system when I can afford it, probably before I buy the new monitor. I just want something that will carry its weight through the new system and on for a cpl years at least

I know I've opened a few threads regarding a new video card in the past but I still haven't bought one. SO I've been looking at this BFG G92 which I think is a good price for what I'm getting. I was previously looking at the standard 8800gt EVGA or MSI. I'm a big fan of EVGA but as far as the G92s go I think the $30 difference between EVGA and BFG is worth getting the BFG. I will say that I will be spending about $400+ on a new monitor around Christmas time; prolly a 24+" and I would like to run at as close to max resolution as possible. I mostly play RPG games; a FPS here and there. Any suggestions for the under 200 (after rebate) range?

I guess my last question is how well do the eVGA's OC? I probably won't ever have the money for a SLI setup so with this giga card at 700 vs the 600 stock on the eVGA, which do you think will perform better?

That is also true... I mainly play RTS games on my PC (I save the FPS for xbox360) so I'm not so sure that anything above an 8800GT is really that useful to me as RTS games are CPU intensive.

Hello all; first post since the move from diy-street. Saw a gigabyte with a 700mhz core clock for $139 after MIR on newegg. I have been thinking about getting a new card for a while, was set on a eVGA (good experience with the 6800GT and step-up program). However, it seems like this deal is too good to pass up! 100mhz over stock and $40 cheaper... Any thoughts?

Well 8800GT it is I guess. A couple more last ?'s (i hope); 1. I've read the cards with the single slot coolers run pretty hot... Will I need an aftermarket cooler? 2. I've also read the cards are 1/4" larger then the 6800GT (card I have now). Am I going to need to do a case mod to fit this guy in? 3. Do I need to update the card's BIOS to work with PCIex 1.0 on my mobo? Thanks for everyone's input

Well I did some price comparing and 9600GT and 8800GT are about the same price. The only thing I noted that was different from the newegg description is 112 (8800GT) vs 64 (9600GT) shaders. Right now I only play on 1280x1024 19" LCD so I know this will be overkill but cards are relatively cheap from what I spent on my 6800 back in the day. So i guess my question has morphed to: 1. Which will OC better 2. Do the shaders matter? 3. Which will be better if I upgrade to a widescreen with a higher res?
