I've an old rig, I know..but it suits my needs- kind of!! Lately when I turn it on it will not post. Instead it hangs with a post code of 29. I read up on it and that is for the initialization of the video adapter. If I clear the CMOS it will post and run with all the stock / auto settings...If I put my tried and true custom bios settings in then it won't post but if I loosen the timings a bit then it will (???) Can anyone point in the right direction to start troubleshooting this.. My rig is in my signature. Thanks in advance.

This getting old AND blind as a bat is irksome to say the least......... Ok so the two ram slots are stacked one upon the other located in the bottom of the laptop just where you might think they should be..argh!!!!....I don't know why I didn't see it...but for some reason I had it in my head that the second ram slot was under the keyboard and I was going in regardless....... Perhaps this helps someone else with a Dell A860. Turns our its not a bad little laptop now with 4 GB /ram and the 2.13 cpu it works quite nice for web surfing and email which is all we are asking from it!!! All for under $450.00

Picked up a Dell vostro A860 for my daughter. I bought some Crucial 2x2GB to upgrade the ram. Installed the 2GB stick in the back panel no problem. Then removed the upper bezel and keyboard and that's where my confusion started...it looks as though the entire bezel needs to be removed to get under where I assume the remaining 2GB sticks go??? It looks like the entire thing needs to be disassembled?? Anyone have any experience with these vostros?? Can you walk me through how I go about installing the second 2GB stick of ram? Thanks in advance.

My post was no attack on you or anyone else...I wondered what the truth was regarding this issue and went to the source for the answer. There I found it and posted what I found and for that you attack me. Most of us on the right are not bitter. We are however, a bit disappointed. Responses like yours just re-enforce why I agree all the more with President-elect Obama that the need to further education is so very,very important.

I agree with you Phil..........but I would add that for just the reasons you've listed that "reasonable discussions" are necessary and should take place. I am bothered by and see little or no value in the constant finger pointing and sophomoric references from one side to the other. There is coming some enormously important legislation in the next few years. Important to all of us , no doubt, but IMHO if you're 40 yrs. old or younger it is vital to pay close attention to what takes place in our nations capitol. Perhaps it will be the kind of change that is wanted & expected ---perhaps not.

Ok your not going to see me do much of this 'cause I'm not a big fan of the left but I am a big fan of truthfulness, accuracy and at least some fundamental understanding of words ....I just went over and re-read the Obama/Biden national plan---start to finish. The words "required" and "community service" appear together only regarding a $4000.00 tax credit ( there's THAT phrase again)) in exchange for 100 hours of community service for college kids ( that's $40.00 an hour). With regard to other types of community service the word "enable" is used. So unless I've missed something........???

It was not then , nor is it now about the specifics of weaponry. It was then and is now a principle set forth by which to live as free men. A healthy fear of government should not change because the date changes. It is that principle that we defend. I don't own a gun. As a former Marine I personally know what guns can do. But make no mistake I would defend to the end this right set forth by the founding fathers against any and all who might seek to take that right away, as well as all the principles set forth by our Constitution and Bill of Rights. This argument regarding our Constitution of that was then and this is now holds no water for me.

Well I guess ya can't argue with that!!!! I'll give it a try. I think its time for fresh install of XP anyways....... My little brain just can't seem to understand why if I have the pagefile in c: disabled..how'd I get a pagefile in c: to begin with??? I thank everyone that offered advice....

Ok thanks guys... Do I understand correctly - that even though I have the C partition set to have no pagefile that Winxp can / will create one there? Why wouldn't it use the D partition as it has since day 1?? I defrag regularly and have never seen this before. I am perplexed . I will try a pagefile on another physical drive too.
