  1. Ended up taking it down to 4.4 and set the offset to +0.015V. Didn't have a lot of time to much yesterday since I had to install the GTX 1060. Everything is playing nice and smooth, so I might take the lazy approach and leave it as is.. but I'll continue to monitor my temps and such to see what my normal use pushes them to.
  2. Tonight I'll probably reduce the offset to +0.010V and see what temps I get from Prime95 torture.. and if they are OK, I'll give it an hour on Prime to see if any crash occurs. If there is an issue, I think I'll just start dialing back the multiplier. As mentioned, the difference it makes for my frames in game are minimal.. Shame I'm stuck at work an unable to test now......
  3. I ran some games and such during the days and peaked out at 79
  4. I left it overnight, and my temps from the idle are lower-mid 30s(
  5. I have overclocked my CPU using the following bios settings: CPU Multiplier x45 BCLK: 100mhz Short and Long duration: 230/200. core current limit 200 Vcore: OFFSET mode +0.020Volts Load line calibration: LEVEL 4 Spread spectrum disabled SpeedStep: on Everything else left alone, mostly on auto. I ran a torture test with Prime95 and found that I have to stop it due to temperature issues. What can I do to reduce my top end temperatures? Is there anything that seems off, or too much voltage?
  6. @AkakmanH Thanks. I was impatient so I just went and bought a Logitech G810 RBG. I read a dozen articles on the switches and boards, so I based it off of that.... Hopefully it works out. @Update >> a year later and it worked out, this keyboard is great.
  7. My keyboard is not letting me hit W + A + Shift.... uncool... So I'm getting rid of this 1996 keyboard and getting a new one. I will use it mostly for gaming, and would like to be able to create macros for it. Looking for some recommendations, since I haven't bought one in 20 years. Also, I prefer one that is less noise for the key clicks, I've heard some can be loud. What do you guys/gals recommend??
  8. I was planning to take notes on my fps numbers for a few games, and I guess good old 3Dmark it is.. I'll also try out Unigine Heaven. As for 1080p... maybe next PC, I still have my older monitor that runs 1680x1050. I don't mind it and it probably helps the frame rates. @cchalogamer My PC has 16GB RAM, I corrected the error in my signature. As for storage, I have all my games on my Samsung 850 EVO, my OS is running on the 840 EVO, and the hdd is for any other stuff. BTW, dumpster fire of optimization sounds about right, it would be great if they sorted that out.
  9. @potatochobit That is my initial plan, get a few benchmarks with the system as is >> swap cards and benchmark >> OC and benchmark Guess I better get some benchmarking software... I haven't benchmarked in 5+ years.. slacking... any suggestions of preferred software? Looking get some good information to know how the performance varies.
  10. Ended up getting the GTX 1060 6GB... I'll get enough use, and based on what I looked up from benchmarks, it was a worthwhile upgrade. Only thing to consider now is how much I should OC my i5-2500k.. any suggestions? Whats a good starting point? Going from 3.3 to 4.5 seems like a bit much, but I haven't OC'd in a few years..
  11. @dihartnell Yes, right by NYC so craigslist is an option, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a website I was unaware of that was good for it.
  12. @dihartnell I'm interested in this approach, might be able to get a decent enough vid card upgrade on the cheap and the OC shouldn't be a problem. do you recommend a specific source for acquiring second hand video cards? I have always purchased my components new. @Dynamic If I go 1070 the price jumps up, and out of the realm of what I would like to pay if I run with only upgrading the video card. I am pretty much prepping to get a complete new build... this will just be a hold over until then. [EDIT: I was able to find an EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SSC GAMING, 04G-P4-6255-RX, 4GB GDDR5, ACX 3.0 for $130 :: It's lower performance than the GTX 1060, but the price seems decent, and feedback?]
  13. @potatochobit Yeah, I know the game isn't optimized, and might be a bad example, but I have tried both high/low settings and it seems there is always a choppiness to the frames. Definitely not playing smooth. Destiny 2 is another I play, and that runs fine for the most part. I'm mostly trying to see if I can get a little more out of this system so I can have less issue with PUBG and maybe squeeze out some extra frames on other games. The concern is that the hardware is dated, and I wanna be sure I can drop ~$300 and get something out of it while saving for a complete system in a year. Or if I should just hold my breath and prepare for a full new system.
  14. I'm looking to boost my performance, nothing too crazy. I've been playing PUBG and really don't like how choppy it's running, so it has motivated me to upgrade. Some of this stuff is pretty old so I know I have to change a bunch. What is a cheap (less than $350) option to get more out of this system... But more to the point, can I get away with a cheap upgrade? Or is it not really worth it and I should prepare to invest in a full upgrade? Current system: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge @ 3.3GHz ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 G.SKILL Sniper Series (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s (SSD) Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R1 Samsung SH-S183L Antec Nine Hundred Silverstone SST-ST75ZF 750W Update: Purchased GTX 1060 6GB :: Will be OC'ing CPU to ~4.5 GHz
  15. @wevsspot 1. Yup still on the stock firmware 2. I'd like it to be a wifi access point, so my devices can connect to a strong signal throughout the house on the same SSID/pw 3. Tech support is soso from TP-Link, they don't exactly have the solutions, but they do try at least. lol
