  1. I had a thought the other day, why not get those not using WEP all on the same page and create an entirely free wifi network? I hit some more this weekend in another neighborhood and they were like 1 every 50ft. In 2 mile I had about 15 AP's.
  2. Ok there is a discusion about laptops and CPU & GPU speed in the notebook forum. Here is the jist of it, instead of overclocking your cpu and gpu to get higher framerates on the laptop you drop your cpu (underclock) and you framrates should increase from 15-50%. Here's the link to the forum thread talking about it. It's gotten some attention: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=32820
  3. I recieved the following in email from a group I joined over a year ago. This is one of the security specs sedning it. Everyone,
  4. You ever wanted to know what was around where you worked or lived? Well thanks to Linuxprox I have a H5555 that is portable enough to do just that. I got curious the other day and wanted to know what was down a 5 mile stretch of highway 31 from 1022 Tower to my office 1136 highway 31 south. In that area I found these: WEP,Infrastructure,beretta,00:0C:41:71:B5:54,-81,6,7/19/2004 5:14:20 PM,7/19/2004 5:14:30 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,linksys,00:0F:66:28:EC:9B,-87,6,7/19/2004 5:08:18 PM,7/19/2004 5:09:03 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,motorola 7F2,00:0C:E5:49:B7:F2,-87,11,7/19/2004 5:08:55 PM,7/19/2004 5:09:01 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,sms,00:80:C8:AD:1D:D7,-32,6,7/19/2004 3:30:55 PM,7/19/2004 5:06:44 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,orthospec,00:06:25:55:C3:25,-87,6,7/19/2004 5:15:16 PM,7/19/2004 5:15:31 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,linksys,00:0F:66:4A:A5:ED,-85,6,7/19/2004 5:07:56 PM,7/19/2004 5:08:03 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,linksys,00:03:2F:00:FD:5A,-87,11,7/19/2004 5:19:23 PM,7/19/2004 5:20:13 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,NETGEAR,00:09:5B:50:9F:C8,-87,11,7/19/2004 5:13:58 PM,7/19/2004 5:14:00 PM,0,0 In a WalMart supercenter plaza I found these: WEP,Infrastructure,pi07490509x09,00:A0:F8:59:6D:4A,-87,5,7/19/2004 12:42:00 PM,7/19/2004 12:42:00 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,pi07490509x09,00:A0:F8:58:5E:AE,-85,1,7/19/2004 12:41:08 PM,7/19/2004 12:42:02 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,d0llartree1nc,00:A0:F8:A5:8A:18,-87,1,7/19/2004 12:40:45 PM,7/19/2004 1:21:59 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,parker,00:0C:41:C3:E9:A1,-84,6,7/19/2004 12:41:15 PM,7/19/2004 1:21:59 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,pi07490509x09,00:A0:F8:59:35:85,-76,1,7/19/2004 1:22:00 PM,7/19/2004 1:22:06 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,pi07490509x09,00:A0:F8:59:39:45,-87,9,7/19/2004 12:41:14 PM,7/19/2004 12:41:14 PM,0,0 Now in my residental neighborhood I found these: None,Infrastructure,MSHOME,00:50:F2:C8:DE:38,-81,6,7/19/2004 5:18:44 PM,7/19/2004 5:18:54 PM,0,0 WEP,Infrastructure,2WIRE663,00:0D:72:2D:B3:19,-80,6,7/19/2004 5:18:35 PM,7/19/2004 5:18:43 PM,0,0 None,Infrastructure,linksys,00:0F:66:35:E2:D6,-84,6,7/19/2004 5:18:11 PM,7/19/2004 5:18:35 PM,0,0 To my surprise alot of them are wide open. I guess some of these people just want to give away the internet of even the information on their network. Some are businesses, and some are residental. The pi# AP's appear to be WalMarts and they are secure. I did this using WiFiFoFum for the PocketPC.
  5. Any notebook that goes into standby will be good after 4 hours. As for a conference, I think the Sager would be fine in a conference room. You would here the air from the air handler more than the notebook. Your right this one requires to be hooked up to AC to play games, but you can go batt and use it for non gaming use and get about 1.5 + hours depending on the settings for power. How do I know for sure, I own one. Your right though he needs to say what his ideal laptop would be doing.
  6. Moved it to a 2000+ machine.
  7. Ok here goes the real deal. If you don't own one how do you know? As for Sager with Prescott CPU, ain't happening they pulled those when I ordered mine and I had to go with the Northwood. I say go with what meets your needs and what you can live with. Sager is a good product and very well built. It is designed for gaming. Any laptop designed for gaming has some cons. So doesn't your desktop. Power consumption is one, and heat is another. Everyone comparing read reviews is great, but untill you have one of these in your hands running and your actually using it, you'll never know what you want. All the laptops with the highend cpu's have fans that make noise. In most cases what gamer listening to his fans when he has a headset on? I use mine for work and play so to me I got what I wanted and decided I would live with the drawbacks of fan noise when I can hear it.
  8. True but I made it run only F@H, and it still sucked.
  9. Well I'll move it to a better box.
  10. Bad news the HD died in it yesterday. So I decided to Linux the system with SUSE. Maybe this will run F@H.
  11. It was running just folding and did nothing what so ever. It's running the GUI Seti.
  12. I know this thread is gonna get some heat if not some serious flames, but I need to ask this. Why is it when in TeamBased games do people not play as teams? then on top of that someone thinking and trying to take out 5 guys since he is the last man standing on his team is a camper? I thought in teambased play the team was the point not the individual. All I have to say is anyone of the teams I have seen play as individuals and not together usually loses unless someone screws up with a grenade or get's lucky with one. I don't mind rambo attitude on a game that is everyman for himself (cause it's sometimes funny to watch). I see no I in Team. I guess annonymity has made it easier.
  13. Ok ran all weekend and it locked up the system, no SETI just F@H running. restarted it, no frames done what so ever. I give with this machine. I'll just let it do SETI.
  14. The Sager, I own one. They come with 7200 rpm 60GB hd. I'd go 12 Cell Lith ion batt. Go 3.4GHZ and you can get it decked out for about $2900.00 with shipping at $3000.00 and save $300-400.00 .
  15. Well what is it? LOL, and do you know Lake George? That is where I'm from, actually a little place 4 miles up the lake called Diamond Point. RIT is a good school, so isn't RPI. But if I had the money it would be Syracuse.
