  1. Greetings again all experts; Red, IVIY, and Gabriel thanks for all your suggestions and input. I've looked over all your suggestions and changed some things. I think I saved $4 but "a penny saved is a penny earned". I need to keep the Samsung SSD as I found out alot of SSD's aren't living up to there listed Read/Write specs. There were also some issues with memory chips being wiped and rebranded by some major sellers. This drive did well on most tests and price/GB isn't bad either. Red, I'll go with the MSI 960 to match up with the board since we're all in this together. And Gabriel, 2x4GB sticks of GSkill RipJaws will look cool in there. IVIY, thanks for the Radeon suggestion but I've been brand loyal to nVidia since the days of the IBM and HP SFF desktops. And we are using a an XFX GeForce FX-5700 on our soon-to-be retired system. Just never took a liking to ATI graphics stuff. So that's about it for now. For some reason the link I used before got lost somewhere on their end so here's the new one: https://pcpartpicker.com/p/T8fBYJ. Thanks again to all you guys for looking in. Catch ya on the flip side ! If I forgot anything let me now.
  2. Thanks again Gabriel for your expertise. I had originally chose the 520 watt Antec but when i upgraded the GPU the PSU calculator wattage went up as well. So I'll go back to the 520 watt Antec. My RAM choice was based on the thought that 2133 mHz was a bit of overkill. I wasn't aware that 1600 mHz would suffice for this build. The Kingston choice was based on the low profile idea as I was not sure if the CPU cooler would get in the way of a RAM slot. So I can use the GSkill and they will look good as well in the MOBO. These also have a lower CAS of 9 so that is a plus. I think the the CPU being the Black Edition has an unlocked multiplier and if so, will the 1600 mHz still do the job ?
  3. Gabriel and cc; I'll be glad to post the results once I get everything together and thanks again for all your advice. RedFury77, if you have no use for the fans, I'll try them out. Besides, now there out of stock on Amazon. I will send a PM with the mailing stuff. And one last item. After much afterthought, research, and advice hear in this forum, I decided to change my GPU to the For an extra $40 over the EVGA GTX 750 Ti, I think it will go a long time before I need to upgrade as well as more FPS ! Here is the link to my final AMD Gaming rig build if anyone else has something in mind. I went a little over my $700 because originally I hadn't planned on an SSD drive. https://pcpartpicker.com/p/PZ7Fyc Thanks all again, Donald
  4. Thanks for the tips Gabriel. I'm open to all options. I'll try the cooler from you with those settings and see what I can get out of it safely.
  5. GabrielTessin; Sent you a PM on your offer. Accepted. Thank you.
  6. Greetings bp; Thanks for the info on the fans and thanks for the clarification on the CPU cooler fan function. Was just wondering if you think the rest of the build components are OK. I'm all set now. Time to start ordering. Thanks again. Donald
  7. Bp, cc, and Gabriel; Thank you all for your replies and advice. I don't plan on any serious OC'ing, just a bit more to stay within the safe limits of what the CPU, memory, MOBO will handle. Just 1 more issue and then I think I'll be good to go. I'll keep all those options in mind. As far as fan configuration for cooling: the top and rear should be exhaust and the front and bottom intake ? How does one know which way the fans are mounted to achieve this ? Also, I've seen some CPU fans when assembled pointing towards the RAM sticks. Doesn't this add more heat to the RAM area ? Should the CPU fan be oriented toward the rear of the case or out the top ? I chose the EVGA card because I think EVGA has some sort of upgrade program. Not sure of the specifics, I'll need to make sure of that. Thanks again guys. I appreciate all the info and hope to hear from you again. Regards, Donald
  8. Greetings All Experts; First time here. Planning a new build, my first one to replace an old IBM PC350. This is what I hope to put together: MOBO - MSI 970 Gaming, AM3+ socket CPU: AMD FX-6300 GPU: EVGA GTX 750 Ti FTW ACX Power Supply: Antec 80+ Bronze 520W High Current Gamer Semi-Modular RAM: 2x4GB GSkill Sniper 9-10-9-28 Case: Coolermaster Elite 431Plus ( [5] 120MM fan options: 2 top,1 bottom, 1 front, 1 back ) 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue 64MB Cache, 7200 RPM Sandisk 128 GB SSD Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST My question is (are), with so many CPU coolers available and so many reviews out there, what is suggested here ? I'm trying to keep the budget at $700 and with what I have now now including this cooler choice: Cooler Master Model Hyper TX3, I'm at $650 with rebates and promos. I was thinking of these case cooling fans: Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm Red LED Silent Fan (3 for aesthetics to complent the MSI board, 1 front, 2 top). To complete the cooling:Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm Silent Fan ( black, 1 bottom, 1 top rear ). Any advice is truly appreciated and I am open to suggestions. Thanks to all in advance for reading this post. I hope it is not to long. Sincerely, Donald
