  1. LOL, those specs in my sig are from a year ago, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. "would you sell just the monitor?" Nope cause if I sell just the monitor and not the PC then I won't have anything to view my PC on....I'll sell just the PC...But not just the monitor...
  2. I'm thinkin right about now that I want to get a mac because I have a pretty nice PC to fall back on and I'm really curious about macs.... Anyways, I'd consider selling my rig if the price was right, it's really nice, here's what I've got. Athlon 2500 Barton /w 333 FSB MSI K7n2 Delta L (that's an NForce 2 Ultra 400 chipset) Motherboard 512 Meg of PC2700 (Kingston, it's not performance ram though, no heat spreader, I could swap it with some OCZ performance 2700 Ram with 2.0 CAS Latency, but only 256 meg) Gainward 64 Meg GeForce 4 Ti4200 (it's brand new too because I RMA'ed my old one) 120 Gig Maxtor HD (2 meg cache, not the 8 meg) 52x24x52 MSI CD-RW drive /w Nero SB Audigy (OEM) I think my floppy drive is a Teac, I forget. Who really cares? Turbo Case X-Pider case /w 420watt PSU, 5 LED case fans, a window, front USB/Audio ports. (occ's got a review of the case if you want to see it and read it, it's what sold me) It's just the cheiftec/antec case, but it's a little funkier, really nice case but the door on the front busted off cause my mom swung around and banged it while it was open, so you can put it on there and close it up and not know it's broken, but if you open it it'll swing open and pop off, I e-mailed TurboCase about it and they said they'd replace it for 20 bucks, but I never felt like spending 20 bucks on it cause I didn't really care.... you can if you want. I've also got a VPR Matrix 17" monitor which is a really freakin' nice monitor that cost me $300 at Best Buy. It's a 17" monitor that goes to 1600x1200 @ 75 Hz or 1280x1024 @ 85 Hz refresh rate, and it's absolutely crystal clear, I love the monitor but if I get a Mac I'll have a flat screen so I won't need it. Also have a brand new Logitech optical mouse, and black keyboard (not logitech). The monitor is black and silver, the keyboard is black and some silver buttons, the mouse is black and silver, and the case is black and silver. The LED fans glow pretty good, the majority of the parts I just bought at the beginning of July, the only part that's kinda old is the Audigy, but I'm pretty sure I still have the software for everything. It runs great. Everything about it is perfect, I just want a mac. I'd format it before I sent it, and maybe install windows XP Pro but I don't have a *cough* actual CD to send you. I'm sure you could procure a similar not actual CD, or I could send you an actual Windows ME disc, but only the upgrade. I don't really even know what a fair price is for this thing, so if you're interested just make an offer and I'll consider it. I'll include the monitor. I'm sure shipping is gonna be kinda pricey but we'll work it out if someone buys it. This is really good gaming rig, the only thing that might need updating anytime soon is the GeForce 4 but I haven't had anything slow it down. I had to RMA my old one cause it was bein wacky and locking up all the time, but that's fixed with my new one. Everything works perfectly great. I don't have a digital camera for pictures, but I'm sure if you're really interested I could take some pictures and have wal-mart put 'em on a CD. If you want to make an offer e-mail [email protected] Thanks folks. Zac
  3. Grr! I'm disapointed. I can't get this thing over 280 without it screwing up in 3DMark, it boots windows without crashing, but when I run 3DMark it goes crazy. I got my 3Dmark scores up to 7,800, and beat the average GeForce 3 Ti500 marks with my proccessor, (or so Madonion tells me) but I still think it should be higher. Loaded my motherboard's high performance bios defaults, and that made the FPS quite a bit higher on what I could see of the first video in 3DMark before it crashed. I don't know what it's problem with the high performance defaults is, everything I've got is high quality, my Ram especially (85 freakin' dollars for 256 megs of ram *shakes head*) but it was incredibly unstable. *sigh* I guess I'm doomed to only be rubbing it in my friend's face by around 3000 points.... GAINWARD YOU DISAPOINT ME! I WAS PROMISED GREAT OVERCLOCKING!!
  4. Aright, here's what happened. I overclocked it in spurts of 5 Mhz to 300/575 and it seemed to work right, then I tried 3DMark, the FPS wasn't any higher, and it froze on the second movie (Dragothic) twice, so I reset, it booted windows again, and everything was all weird lookin'. So I think "Ok, guess I went to high" I boot windows again, and then the Core/Memory was back at default. *shrugs* Any idea's? Should I just leave well enough be? Or try again.
  5. Bragging rights mainly. I only got a 7280 3DMark2001 score too, it should be a lot higher than that. I was expecting between 8,500 and 9,000. I'm gonna do some bios tweaking, but I want to overclock my video card and rub it in my PC fanboy friend's face that I've got a better PC. :-p He's still stuck with a TBird 1.0 Ghz and a GF3 Ti200 Golden Sample, so you can see how much more room for rubbing there could potentially be.
  6. How high should I? I have about a 45celcius ambient case temp, I don't know what temp my GeForce is running at, but it's got 4 PCI slots between it and the nearest component, so it's got lots of room to breath. I want to put it at 290-300 core and 565-590 memory, which Gainward's program has in the yellow part of their little meter, so I don't think I should have any problems, but I've never done it before so I wanted to run it by someone who knows what they're doing first. Gainward's program is incredibly simple, so I know how, just wondering if I should. Danke'
  7. I want to put a fan in the side panel of my case. I have 3 questions. 1. What would be the best place to put this, up between my power supply and 5 1/4" drives, over my CPU above the heatsink/fan, or over my cards. 2. What size fan would be best? 80mm or 120mm. And I want quiet fans, like Vantec stealth fans or something. What's the best kind of fan I can get for around $10-15 3. How do I do it? OCC has a guide for a blowhole, but that's too much of a commitment. I don't want to gut my system just to put in a fan. That'd suck....
  8. Yeah, I might get a Volcano 7, because 50C seems high and that's . me off. I don't know why I want to overclock exactly, it runs to my liking now, but it angers me that nearly every part I've got is set to run at 333 and my CPU is holding me at 266. *kicks the dang thing*
  9. I'm wondering if it would be safe to overclock my front side bus to 166 using the retail heatsink/fan that AMD gave me. I'm on an Athlon XP1800+ with an MSI KT3 (VIAKT333 chipset) OCZ 256 DDR 2700 (333 Mhz) and it's killing me how much "333" comes up in describing my system, when the FSB is only at 133. I want it at 166, I know all my other components can handle that speed, but I'm not sure if my CPU could. It's running around 50/celcius as it is.
  10. Depends on the motherboard you get. If you get one with built in graphics and sound, than yeah, that should be all you *have* to get. If you don't, you'll need a sound card and graphics card. If I were you I'd look into a motherboard with an NForce chipset, I've heard it's not the most stable board in the world, but you'd basically have a GeForce 2 MX built into the chipset, so it'd save you some money. I also can't see a 10 gig hard drive getting you too far in life, but you won't *need* anything but a motherboard, case, ram, and CPU (assuming the motherboard has built in graphics/sound, like I said) but I'm guessing some of the components from that E-Machines are gonna slow down your system quite a bit. Depending on how much money you've got to spend, I'd look into getting a hard drive, a Sound Blaster Live! Value (which runs about $40) a GeForce 3 Ti200, or GeForce 4 MX (both run about $150) and a few other things, it'd make the system run better.
  11. If you're running a 600 Celron now, you've probably got a 250 watt Powersupply, or probably even lower. For Athlons the minimum you should have is 300 watt, but it's better to have a 350 or more, especially for XP's. It'd probably easier, and not much more expensive to get a new case. I'd look around for a case with a 350w Powersupply, if you're on a budget you . should be able to find some at or around $50 online (plus shipping). If you're not, spend more and get an Antec or Lian Li or something
  12. I've been planning on getting an MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU (with onboard RAID and sound [onboard sound is a temporary measure, I assure you]) Here's what I've got planned. Athlon XP 1700+ Antec 1080b Plus with 430w PSU, and 5 80mm case fans (3 of which will be transparent 256 DDR (or 512 DDR, not sure yet) 20 gig Seagate HD 12 gig IBM HD Question is, what's the best motherboard for stability/overclocking functions, and has similar features, that's in my price range. I'm gonna have about $500 for the motherboard, CPU, case, ram, and fans. I'm also curious about what CPU fan I should get. Volcano 7 looks good, but bad for overclocking, so any sugestions in the $20-30 price range, and doesn't sound like a dying rat on a megaphone, would be greatly apreciated.
