Guest edge130 Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Anyone that has an eVGA 256-P2-N376-AX PCI-E card please let me know what you think about it. Recent website showed that card for $299 plus a $20 MIR = $279. Also was looking at a Leadtek PX6800GT TDH Newegg shows that at $319. But newer customer reviews indicate that Leadtek switched from the big 2 slot copper design to s slimmer one slot width design. So I don't know the difference on construction (copper), fan size (noise) ect. As I am looking to place my order soon, I would appreciate anyones comments on these PCI-E cards or if they have any other recommendations. I'd like to keep price to about $300 . I don't plan on buying 2 cards for SLI, so Im only buying one video card. Thanks to all in advance.
Boppo Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 You might want to look at the ATI x800 XL cards. They are in that price range too.
Guest Shibby Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I'm more than happy with my eVGA....working on o/c'ing it right now. Temps are fine at the slight overclock I'm running now, though I did slap some AS5 on the gpu (only made a few degrees difference, would be fine even without doing that). eVGA has a great rep, never heard anyone slamming them. I've never owned a Leadtek, so can't comment on them.
Worm Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Since switching to an X800 XL myself, I've never looked back. It gives me a minimum 34 fps (frames per sec) in a game called Joint Operations Typhoon Rising (data top left onscreen) even when there's more than 100 players in the server. This screenshot was taken with 119 players in it. There's a choice of X800 XLs at competitive prices at Newegg in case you want to reconsider your choice of card. Zelig Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I love evga, I've had great results with them.
Semantics Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Gainwards are good as well. I've been able to yield better overclocks over the eVGA's.
Absolute Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Quoted from xfx web site "GeForce™ 6800 Ultra with PCI Express Our fastest card now just got fast. It's like gaming on crack. " thats the card im getting but they got the GT series too you might wanna look at but i think it's a bit more than the price's you quoted
Semantics Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Getting an XFX card is like smoking crack in my opinion. They may be inexpensive, but their build quality is not up to par.

I'm somewhat disspointed in my x800xl, its a great card in CS : S/BF2/HF2 and other DirectX games...but when it comes to OpenGL games like Doom 3 or Riddick, it gets destroyed by the 6800GT. Also, the x800xl does not support SMS 3.0....making the 6800GT better future ready. I don't know if this is THAT important, but x800xl is a horrible overclocker, most youg et is a 10% boost, while the 6800GT can be OC'd to Ultra speeds quite easily I hear. Couch Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I maybe a little biased here but an evga card is definitely a good one to get. I believe they started to offer a lifetime warranty on their new cards. Also they have a step-up program where you can trade in your video card for a newer model-not bad(can only be done once). I am currently going through this step-up program. To give you an idea, I bought a evga 6800gt for $540. and through the step-up I paid $102 to upgrade to an evga 7800gtx ko w/ BF2. That's including shipping also (funds in canadian dollars). So $642. for a 7800gtx ko is damm good especially since I cant find one for under $790. Guest edge130 Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005  Well the step up program sounds good to me. If its still available in a year or so, I could take advantage of it to a newer card. Has anyone with the eVGA card kept the stock cooler or did you get an aftermarket HSF for it (like Artic Cooling NV Silencer 5)? I think I'll go with the EVGA 6800GT fo $279, including the rebate. Guest gandalf Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I think the lifetime warranty is only for the 7800gtx's, but I could be wrong.
