Vektor Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I'm now certain I have a SATA II Drive and a SATA II board. I'd now like to be certain that it's functioning @ SATA II Speeds. It's fast but it doesn't seem that fast . Is there a drive tool that would confirm that for me or allow me to enable it if it's not. I have the nforce 666 drivers installed. Guest bobyjo Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Maybe SiSoftSandra's software would tell you if you ran a drive benchmark on your system.
Vektor Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 hmm maybe...it's a good place to start anyhow.
Shard Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I know you set SATAII in the bios, and then Hitachi has software for it as well...dunno about the Maxtor drives though.
Vektor Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I know you set SATAII in the bios, and then Hitachi has software for it as well...dunno about the Maxtor drives though. Where do you set SATA II in the bios ? I know where you enable sata but not where you set SATA II. I checked it out with sisoft sandra and while it's a bit outdated and doesn't have SATA 300 benchmarks. but I tested mine and it tested @ 54 MB"S while sata 150 has a benchmark of 29 MB's as a comparison drive...it almost double not quite...now I'll have to get another 300 Gb Maxtor and set up 600 gb's Raid 0 ...hehe. AndrewZorn Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 supposedly SATAII actually supports hot swap and removal, so maybe try right clicking on safe remove and removing the hard drive. then plug it back in etc and see if anything messes up. EDIT and besides as far as speed you likely would not ever see the difference between an IDE and SATA drive, so theres no reason to check that. SATAII features like NCQ and hot-swap are the only real benefits.
Angry_Games Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 in the second pic, it will say 3.0Gb/s instead of 1.5Gb/s EDIT and besides as far as speed you likely would not ever see the difference between an IDE and SATA drive, so theres no reason to check that. SATAII features like NCQ and hot-swap are the only real benefits. not quite correct. SATA II standards do not specify you have to have NCQ support. Also SATA II will show a very big increase in burst speeds over standard SATA. Please check the 'hard drives benchmark and compare' sticky thread in the Off Topic to see results. Bitgod Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Yup, I show the 3G in my properties and the drives show up in safely remove hardware. Kinda wish they didn't, don't need another icon in my systray, oh well. So those would be the giveaway.
Vektor Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Shoot mine shows 1.5 in the properties!! What do I have to do. I bet this drive is only sata 1 and those guys @ maxtor AND the buys at basoncomputer don't know what the hell they are talking about. It says sata 1.5 on the white label of the drive. All of basons advertisment including invoice state sata II the drive was manufactured in June 2005. I called Maxtor Tech Support. According to the srial # I gave him he thinks I have an ATA Drive . ... I take it out of static bag it's definately sata No legacy power even. The tech puts me on hold then comes back and Definatively tells me I have a SATA II Drive without question. I'll call hiim and he'll say it's a controller/driver issue. Help please. :~(
