Mafna Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Does anyone else get the feeling that on NF3 at least, the voltage during bootup is only the voltage set by actual number without the +% part? Could this also be the reason for many cold boot problems?
Yashu Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I think that you could be right..... or... something that I found out, I think that default voltage is read from the chip and used for the first part of a cold boot. I accidently damaged one of the capacitor packs when removing the IHS on my clawhammer... and after that suddenly it was defaulting the voltage to 1.3something. Zelig Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Yeah, I always assumed that's what the bootup voltage was...
Fire-N-Ice Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 don't know if it's different, but my nf4 bios says "start up", "special" (which is the %), and "control". I would assume the "start up" would be the voltage during boot up, then once past the bios screen and loading the OS, it will put it at whatever your control * special would be. loc.o Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 ^ Thats right, although i think when loading os yr already on control*special.
Mafna Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 But how does one get the machine to boot up overclocked at levels where a higher voltage is needed, if the processor only gets 1.55v max? I mean, if at the level I want it at it needs 1.6v or more? How to boot it up then? If we put asside overclocking from Windows. I mean, does this limitation in booting up mean it is not possible or is it posssible?
Fire-N-Ice Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I don't understand. Why would you need it OC'ed during bios load?
lb11 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 The cold boot problem is just inherent in that board at the moment. I had alot of problems with mine so I returned it for the NF4. But during post its not really processing to need the voltage required to be considered stable. IE to be stable you might need 1.8v but that doesnt mean it wont idle at the 1.55 startup limit. as soon as the bios loads it will apply the voltage you want. Mafna Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 The voltage is not only in bios but during booting windows up. That is a CPU intensive process so the proc might crap out before booting up windows if it does not get the juice while it needs it to power up the windows while being OCed to levels where it needs more than 1.6v for instance. By the way. Does your Mobo also increase CPU voltage when the CPU is being stressed?
