Nhojwolfe Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I turn on the pc and after a bit.... I get this error message... To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations... I have a 6800 gt pny maybe thats the problem in the first place... Ok so i think .. Maybe its not getting enough power, disconnect all but one hard drive.. Give the video card a rail for its self.. So I'm down to powering the mb and the three connectors on the mb.. And a pata hd, I then turned off all sata and pata ports usb port, 1394 and the inf red port... Yes this motherboard has . loads of bells and whistles.. .. same thing same error... This is when I had the antec 500 watt power supply btw.. So basically I'm thinking ok.. Maybe the psu wich should support the mb and card just cant hang... I go out and buy a 650 watt power supply... 18 amps Leave the motherboard the way it was.. with everything turned off.... boot it up run aqua mark 2-3 times seems to be ok.. run it one more time before i start hooking everything up get the same error message... So I am thinking maybe its just too hot. The video card is hotter than I would Like but I'm running factory Heat sink on it right now so thats expected.. I think hell with it, Open the case get a huge box fan and point it sideways ... Temps dropped sharpley... But it didn't fix the error message.. Checked the nvidia forums all I can find is basically get a bigger power supply.. Called Pny they said it has to be the voltage on the motherboard controller.. I checked both pcie slots btw... but also says 500watts with 12 amps should be enough... Oh and I have tried both pcie slots on the mb with the same results.. If your thinking hes an over clocking Id10t . Your wrong I want to get my system stabel before I fry my motherboard.. I have a dfi lan party sli dr motherboard with a 3700 64 bit 1 meg l2 cache proc a 6800 gt pcie pny video graphics card... 1 gig cas latency 2 .... 2.2.2.2.5 memory... 650 watt power supply with 18 amps and for testing purposes running a singel pata baracuda drive.. have downloaded the newest bios rev for the motherboard and flashed it and also have tried the newest nvidia drivers and even tried rolling them back three versions... Im simply all out of ideas.. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks Nhoj W
rldolph79 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Good god man...just copy what you just wrote over into your sig for starters, and people would be a lot more willing to help you. Then get a new power supply...you need to go check out the power supply thread. Just search for it...you'll find it.

cpuz Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 what does your temps show under load using per nvidia advanced settings?
Nhojwolfe Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 the temps are showing 41 c ... Oddley enough Im pretty sure its not a temp issue becuse the If leave the pc off overnight and turn it on, I get the error message right on boot up.. If I start using the pc then reboot I can probly go for an hour or 2-3 without getting the error message?.. Im thinking it may just be a faulty relay in the video card somewhere?... Any other ideas.. I thank everyone who has given me some ideas so far

I thank everyone who has given me some ideas so far I'll repeat the question asked earlier. Did you plug in the power to the card? These cards have a dedicated power connector that needs to be plugged directly into the card to make it work correctly. I had that same exact error with my 7800 GTX because I had forgotten to plug it in.

Nhojwolfe Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 There ya go... didnt know a sig was that important.. but anyways it now is there... The power is plugged in and I have tried a few different ways of connecting it. Using 2 hd connectors to the connector that comes with it.. and the actual 6 pin power connectors on the power supply its self..... Nogo. Short of being a faulty motherboard where the voltage is carried through the mb or a video Im kinda of out of ideas
StephenC Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Your PSU is that 18a on +12v total? or do you have 2 +12v rails 18a each = 36a? And your RAM is that 1 stick at 1gb or do you have 2x512 = 1gb?
