huan Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 A few days ago my while playing WoW my system just started BSODing. All of the sudden I can't even fully boot windows without my computer restarting. I swapped my sticks out with some corsair value memory and the problems instantly go away. I decided to test the TWINX1024-4400C25PT sticks in two other boxes and everything seems perfectly fine (memtest and prime for 8 hours in each box without issue). I throw the sticks back in my main box and the problems resume (prime fails within 5 seconds of starting the test). For kicks I dropped the timing from 2.5-4-4-8 to 2-2-2-5 and now prime has been chugging along error free for over 12 hours. How probable is it that the memory was damaged somehow? SaFrOuT Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 what is the spd settings for ur ram , are they made to work @ 2-2-2-5 or 2.5-4-4-8 ?
ArcticSoldier Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 i have crucial ballistix and it wont run 3-4-10-4 @ 250 rated speed at 2.85v however it will happily run 2-2-5-2 all day long prime stable. try playing around with the voltage. found out that i could run my ballistix more stable at 2.75v @ 2.5-3-8-3 @ 250 without a hitch instead of 2.85v. if not see if your psu has stable rails. I run at 2.75v exclusively, as I also found out that giving it any extra juice just hurt stability...

sonnenkind Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Well, they are made to run @2,5-4-4-8 @275MHz @2,75V which - probably - won't work on the new DFI boards, since Corsair RAM is known to cause problems on these boards. My special tip: get rid of them (no need to sell them under their worth - no doubt it's good RAM, but not on the DFI boards) and buy something nice from OCZ. huan Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I've debated that for awhile, however this memory never gave me problems on this board before. This issue just sort of developed instantly... Which means something had to have changed (i.e. some component failing).
bioport Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 My special tip: get rid of them (no need to sell them under their worth - no doubt it's good RAM, but not on the DFI boards) and buy something nice from OCZ. There is no compatibility issue with corsair ram. Take a look at what corsair's own Ram Guy says about this so-called "issue": "There is no compatibility issue with our modules and any MB that I am aware of. This crap was started by one of our competitors who seem to be opportunistic and prey on one's weakness." I wonder if that competitor might be OCZ? Rodge Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Bioport u r a tool...corsair memory has had significantly more issues than ocz ram on these boards period! That has been echoed by many users here so I am not sure why you are getting bent out of shape by that...hmmm, u r using ocz according to your sig so why dont u sell that and get some corsair sticks and be their poster boy on here... bioport Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 corsair says that it's user error. maybe these people with problems should swing by www.theramguy.com and ask a corsair employee if they can help before running to ocz. sonnenkind Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Bioport, you better should do a little research - and since a banana has two ends: why should Corsair or "The RAM Guy" tell you, that there is a problem. > ask a corsair employee if they can help Corsair's help: running 275MHz 2,5-4-4-8 modules at 200MHz with 2,5-4-4-8 @ 2T and bank interleaving disabled - hooray! bioport Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Corsair's help: running 275MHz 2,5-4-4-8 modules at 200MHz with 2,5-4-4-8 @ 2T and bank interleaving disabled - hooray! LOL. corsair's reply was certainly better than "sell your ram and get some OCZ!!!!111!!" Seriously though, why should I belive DFI and OCZ over corsair? All three are (relatively) respected manufacturers, and only want to make their product look the best, sometimes at any cost. If you want my personal opinion huan, it's a DFI issue, not a corsair issue. Why don't you sell your Ultra-D and get some ASUS goodness?
