Underclocking memory for nf3 250gb

Recommended Posts

well ive got 2 512mb DDR 500 sticks and they dont work with my motherboard because i think its cause the dfi motherboard nf3 250gb only supports upto DDR 400.

now my pc runs fine with one stick but with 2 of them i get alot of blue screens of death and slow performance, i emailed the people i got them from and they said i need to underclock both sticks.

How do i do this ive only ever overclocked my gfx card and cpu never touched my memory settings in bios!

any ideas lads?

Also when they are both in my computer only registers 512mb not 1gb, altho

CPU-z knows i have 1gb and reads them both :)

check the manual that came with the board I know the issue of memory is addressed and i've seen this problem appear a lot on the boards before, you should use the search forum topic and it should point you to a solution a lot quicker then having to wait for an answer! although if that doesn't work, i'm sure you'll get some other replies soon enough :D

none of that makes sense to me, all i know is the offical DFI website says the motherboard supports up2 pc 4000 DDR 400 and my ram sticks are PC 5000 DDR 500 and when both of them are in i run slow and get alot of blue screens of deaths

Try slots one and three for starters. Whoever told you to "underclock" your memory was smokin' some serious chemicals. Have you tested each stick individually using memtest to make sure you don't have a bad module?

It was www.overclockers.co.uk who told me to do this because i demanded a refund for selling me a bundle pack that was gauranteed 100% compatible when the memory isnt. even tho technically 512mb is compatable 1gb isnt.

anyway ive tried just slot 1 and 3 and it still screwed up, i cant run memtest because i dont have a floppy disk drive.

do any ideas how i can make ddr 500 run at DDr 400 lol?

If you aren't overclocked at all right now then they should default to DDR400. When memory is rated at DDR400, DDR500 and so on it just means it is rated to run at those speeds not that it will default to those speeds. That's for you and me to "make it" run higher than stock clocks of DDR400 :D Since you don't have a floppy I would suggest using winflash and update your bios to official 504 which has memtest embedded in the bios...

EDIT: I would only run one stick of memory in slot one that you know to be working when you flash. Make sure you are not overclocked and stable when flashing from the windows environment...

You can get Memtest that is for a CD. I have had nothing but problems trying to use Memtest from the Bios, and a few others have too. Most people don't, however. I couldn't get two sticks to work until I flashed my Bios. Whether it was a bad flash before that, or a Bios that wasn't good for my memory, I don't know, but a good flash with the newest bios fixed it. I agree with Old Guy, 1 & 3 are best. I got many more errors in Memtest using 1 & 2. It will also allow more air to move in between your sticks and help with cooling. Good Luck.

The ram may be compatible with your motherboard, but your processor may have trouble with them.

Since AMD decided to put the memory controller on the processor, compatibility problems between processor and memory may arise.

Do you have Cool 'n Quiet disabled and uninstalled? Cool 'n Quiet is known to cause trouble with two sticks of ram.

Are you using the on-board soundcard? Add-in cards may cause trouble. I know from my own experience that an Audigy prefers PCI-slot 2 on this motherboard and may cause RAM-problems (yes, I know it's weird) if it's in a higher pci slot.

Are you using the on-board LAN? This caused havoc on my system, and I settled for using a PCI LAN-card.

Please add this to your signature: which BIOS and which driver versions you are using.
