HELP: RAID 0 Backup Problems "Error 662 Cannot create image file&

Recommended Posts

I checked the Symantec Knowledgebase and this is what I found:

Error: "Error 662 Cannot create image file" while saving an image to a CD-RW/DVD-RW disc or external hard drive.

Situation: When you use Ghost to save an image file directly to a CD-RW/DVD-RW disc or external hard drive, you see the error message, "Error 662 Cannot create image file" and the process fails.

The CD-RW/DVD-RW disc(s) already have data written to them. During the cloning operation, you checked an option that instructs Ghost to erase the discs before writing to them.

Solution:

Depending on your specific situation, one of these solutions should resolve the problem.

CD-RW/DVD-RW disc

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 1.0 and Symantec Ghost 8.0 support erasing CD-RW/DVD-RW discs that contain data. If you are cloning an image to a CD-RW/DVD-RW disc and the disc contains data, Symantec Ghost will prompt you to erase the data. Select either the Quick or Full options to erase the contents of the disc. Symantec Ghost will then clone to the disc once the erase process is complete.

If you are using Norton Ghost 2003, you will need to use a Windows CD/DVD burning application to completely erase the CD-RW/DVD-RW discs before using them.

External hard drive

This problem occurs if the external hard drive has been formatted in NTFS. To resolve this problem, format the external hard drive as FAT32 instead of NTFS.

I am trying to back up my RAID0 array onto a DVD+R. I have backed many times before with Ghost 2003 with single raptor and restored images etc. in the same rig. I never had any issue. I am using the this switch "-fni". Only then its reads 141MB array. Now, I guess because my array is formatted to NTFS it is giving this error. Earlier I had FAT32 when I had a single RAPTOR.

Anyone has any thoughts? Please help! Thanks.

This is gonna be a hardware or software problem specific to your setup.

I've seen that message generated when there are several optical writing packages loaded at one time like Nero and Roxio.

One way to confirm this situation is to attempt an archive to a hard drive. If the archive to a drive is successful you know it is an optical hardware or software problem.

I have only NERO installed. I created a bootup floppy disk using ghost with ghost on it and then booted up with floppy. When I tried to image it did not work and I got the error. I have done exactly the same thing on non-RAID setup many times before with same software and same settings.

So, I went ahead and used Ghost thru Windows and believe it or not it worked. it rebooted the machine, popped up Ghost and imaged the partition. I verified image file and its ok.

Ex-Roadie is right..it has to be with drivers but, how come this time its different, I have no idea.

Thanks again...
