Vcore adjusting

Recommended Posts

Kryptonite - first, why are you upping your vcore?

For example, do you already have a prime95 stable baseline to work from?

What is the objective of raising the vcore (for example, what wall have you hit that a vcore adjustment might help)?

in otherwords, early on, I keep wanting to up my vcore (and other voltages) thinking that it was just automatic that more is better.

come up some, find your instability areas, then up the voltages a bit to see if they help.

sometimes they just add a lot of heat and actually defeat your oc

p.s. I would not go over mid 1.7x's on my clawhammer, and would not want to run there 7/24. However, I will run my clawhammer at 1.65ish 7/24 -- but thats just me...

p.s.s

I did not need to move to 1.6x+ until I was pushing high 2.7s on my rig

well ive got a SD core and i personally would not like to give it more than 1.6 on stock cooler I feel safer with 1.5 - 1.55, since venice is just a sandy with less cache the i suspect should be the same.

Like timpanogus says only up your Vcore if you are overclocking and it has became unstable

yes, please note, I'm on a clawhammer and I think it will take more ... bottom line, watch your temps -- I set my personal limit at 60C and ran voltages more based on temp. But once again, the clawhammer is a hotter animal..

determine you max temp you are willing to go to ... set that value in your thermal protection in the bios for the cpu ... it will shut your system right off if it hits that limit. I always leave this on...

then adjust away ... with a little better warm fuzzy that your cpu may survive

i would say it's safe to hover around 50*c max under full load and yes your clawhammer will have a higher stock Vcore than a Venicesandy core and run hotter too, personally 60*c is way too hot for my liking.

i have an athlom XP and it refuses to work if temp comes close to 60*c and i beleive these are made on the same 130nm process as the clawhammer, correct me if i'm wrong
