Sorrento Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Ever since I build it months ago when ever I do a weird configuration (lol) with the nVidia firewall, upon reboot I get an error screen saying this or that didn't load, and it asks me if I want to reboot to correct the problem... lol, well I keep saying NO, and after a few seconds I get a BSOD. It has happened many times now, with diferent windows installations... and I am very sure it is the firewall configuration. Has anyone else had something like this? Also, the firewall isn't working now... not sure why, but the only way it stops an unknown program from reaching the web is when I choose Lockdown configuration, the others don't even ask me anything and let any traffic pass. Anyone has a clue of how to solve this? Thanks in advance.
Sharp Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hello, Lots of people get problems with the nvidia firewall. It is normal. Uninstall it.
Sorrento Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 No! if its way cool!!!! These problems only happen when I try to do some weird stuff like shutting the firewall then reestablish it again. And it clearly says something is wrong before the BSOD... I am the one who says "nah, i will restart later"... lol, then POW! BSOD! :shake: I might need to reinstall it anyway, somehow it is not working now.
Sharp Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Mine works with out the bluescreens but the firewall does take a lot of memory. Firewall = cool Firewall = Bluescreens Logic indicates that Bluescreens = cool http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_wi...intel_7.13.html I know this is the link to the intel drivers but they do work and the drivers are newer. I have not tested the Ethernet driver/firewall in this package, so I dont know if it will work. If not you will get another "cool" bluescreen. Try it. Sorrento Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Firewall = coolFirewall = Bluescreens Logic indicates that Bluescreens = cool Ohh, the brutal logic... lol Well I think I am going to stay with the current drivers, unless something really bad happens. In my opinion the firewall works quite well if I don't mess around with it... never had any problems till now that its not working at all. Sorrento Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 btw, are those drivers the ones in the Ethernet folder? Do these work, or just the NAM ones?
Sharp Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 You lost me, The drivers I linked to are the full chipset drivers for the intel nF4 chipset. The ethernet folder = drivers for the NIC And NAM = the firewall, which is in the ethernet folder.
Sorrento Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Ohh, yes I mean the driver pack is an executable zip file... inside there is an Ethernet folder containing the Ethernet drivers, and also inside that folder there is the NAM one containing the firewall files. My question was meant to be: do these Ethernet drivers inside this Ethernet folder work with the DFI nF4 SLI-DR, or just the NAM ones... or actually both? http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_wi...intel_7.13.html I know this is the link to the intel drivers but they do work and the drivers are newer. I have not tested the Ethernet driver/firewall in this package, so I dont know if it will work. If not you will get another "cool" bluescreen. Try it. By this you meant that you tried these drivers on your motherboard?? This is why I was a little confused as well. You say you have used these drivers, but not the Ethernet ones? You do realize these are for the nForce4 SLI for Intel don't you? Sorry, I thought i understood. Hope I am explaining myself better this time. _xhp_ Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Mine works with out the bluescreens but the firewall does take a lot of memory. Mine works with no bluescreens at all. Does nSvcIp.exe still leak memory with the newer drivers (~1MB per hour)?
Sharp Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hello, Yes I am referring to the INTEL drivers. I have installed the Intel drivers on my AMD NF4 board and they work. But I did not install the firewall and ethernet driver.
Sorrento Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hello, Yes I am referring to the INTEL drivers. I have installed the Intel drivers on my AMD NF4 board and they work. But I did not install the firewall and ethernet driver. Ohh I thought it was the other way around... it was actually logical that way. I will try them and see what happens, I guess everything between these two chipsets is the same, also nvidia RAID and Ethernet perhaps... but I will wait for you to try them first of course As for the memory leak with the Nvidia Firewall, I didn't knew it was that bad. I still have the router firewall to take care of any nasty things, so this other firewall is just another thing using cpu cycles with out any real need.
