Which TCCD chips are the best for overclocking

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was just wondering, since there are a few different revisions of the Samsung TCCD chip, which would be best for getting high speeds.

Mine are the 431 I think, but dunno for sure, they are rated for 2-2-2-5 @ DDR400 and 2.5-3-3-7 @ DDR550.

Seeing the timings for DDR550, is it safe to say that I have still a bit of headroom to play with over DDR550???

Thanks for any info

Pim

if indeed you're only using 2.7vdimm to run at DDR550 then i'd say you definitely should have at least some headroom left. 2.7V has a ceiling, 2.8V should have a higher ceiling and 2.9V should have an even higher ceiling. 2.9V is the sweet spot for most TCCD.

however, this all kinda depends on your CPU too since your RAM can only go as high as the processor. and if you just keep upping the clocks with 1:1 RAM, it's gonna be harder to decipher your problems (i.e. is RAM too high, or CPU?). plus, you'll have to reset BIOS more often. first, put RAM on a big divider and find the FSB limit of your CPU. then it'll be easier to work the RAM back up to 1:1.

that said, you might be able to do 300x9 1:1. won't know til ya try! ;)

That was just a tryout, to warm things up. :) And to have a comparison for myself of improvements in bandwidth.

I have another screenshot pending approval where the ram and cpu are running 275Mhz fsb synced.

The timings for that setting are 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2T.

Unfortunately it won't do 1T at that speed, anyone know why that is??

Bandwidth at that speed is 6400Mb/s, dunno if that is any good??

The above timings are the only things set, the rest is on auto, so I still have to do some tweaking.

Be patient, I'm not gonna rush this.

do you have CPC enabled in bios or is it set to auto? enable it.

edit: if already enabled, you're gonna need more voltage to get em to run 1T.

the best outlook to have! ;)

I had it on enabled, but it wouldn't boot into windows with it on.

More voltage?? I had it on 2.8V, so I guess I still need more.

Is it save to set it to 2.9 without some additional cooling over it?? I still have to place a dedicated fan over them, and also add some ramsinks.

like i said before, 2.9vdimm is the sweet spot for most TCCD. if you've got good case cooling, that should be sufficient for 2.9V. i ran my old ocz plat. 2 at 2.9V forever without a dedicated fan. of course, active cooling is always better so don't let me talk you out of it. just not necessary, i don't think, unless you go > 2.9V. very few have gotten higher clocks using > 2.9vdimm with TCCD.

Here's the link to my bandwidth @ 275Mhz busspeed:

That is with 2T CPC, so 1T should give nice improvements, right??

*EDIT*

About my ramsinks, they are heatspreaders with a heatsink on 1 side and a flat spreader on the other side.

But my conducting tape is no more, since the ramsticks are placed horizontally, isn't it possible to apply a small biy of AS5 on each chip and use the clamps that came with the heatspreader to keep em in place??
