DLink DGL-4300 Gamefuel Performance Issues.

Picked up my DLink DGL-4300 game router on Friday. Bascially it prioritizes packets to reduce lag for applications that need a smooth flow of data (VoIP, Games, etc). I got this router mainly because when my wife surfs or uses her VPN, it murders my ping times when gaming. Initial setup was a breeze and not much different than my old (but trusty) DI-614+. As a side note, I love all of the advanced features of this router. WOW! As soon as I entered my credentials for my DSL account, I was up and surfing.

Once I was running, I was anxious to test the gamefuel feature. On my first attempt, I enabled gamefuel, set auto classification. My uplink was autodetected at 150kbps. To test this, I began downloading a 1GB file over MSIE. On my other computer, I fired up UT2k4. To my dismay, my ping was in the mid 300s. This is no different than what happens on my DI-614+. Disappointed, I enabled dynamic fragmentation and repeated the test. Same thing.

Next, I decided to create a rule to aide prioritization of packets. I set all traffic on the computer downloading my file to priority 255(lowest) and my game box to priority 0(highest). I verified this in active sessions. I still had the same results. Frustrated, I performed the tests above with BF2 and had nearly identical results.

So later that night, I poke around the forums and find that some are configuring their DSL modems as bridges so as not to have any double natting issues. I hadn't touched my DSL since I received it. So to rule that out as an issue, I configured it as a bridge and reconnected it to my 4300. Internet access was instant and I noticed no different in performance. Unfortunately, the two tests mentioned above behaved exactly the same as before. Additionally, I experienced the same problems with MTU set to 1492 and 1450. I even tried changing the

One thing I did notice is that on the gamefuel page, in firmware 1.0 there was an option for max fragment size. I don't see that in 1.2 or 1.3. Has it moved, is it no longer an option or has it been replaced by the new options added since 1.0?

If anyone has experience with this router or has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks!
