scrapser Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 OK. This is my new build in progress. I was very careful to adhere to all safety precautions. I flashed to 623-3, loaded Optimized Defaults, rebooted and checked temps (CPU around 57 degrees). I then moved the JP17 for higher voltages and entered the settings from OCZ. The temps float between 56-59 but stay mostly around 57-58. The OCZ settings are in this link... http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54 Most of the settings from OCZ were already present in 623-3 Optimized Settings. A couple settings I couldn't reach because they're capped at a lower setting (i.e., DRAM Data Drive Strength - Level 4...now only goes to 3). These temps are high and I'm wondering what next. Looking forward to hearing some ideas. Thanks scrapser
ZoKi Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 What volts are you running through your cpu? that is quite high.. Maybe try re-sitting your xp120 with articsilver compound
timpanogos Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 that fx55 will run HOT ... I had the same temps with a xp-120 on loaded oc
scrapser Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 With the 1/25 BIOS and Optimized Defaults it was running around 43 degrees. Got any ideas as to what might bring it down or is this about normal. I'm worried...this is just BIOS. I haven't even loaded the OS yet. What temps do you get on load with your set up? I see you're using the yellow slots (mine are in the orange). I can't do the one pin jumper trick, my PSU isn't adjustable by the looks of it. scrapser
scrapser Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 The HS has Arctic Silver 5 on it now. The CPU is set to 1.5v
timpanogos Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 actually, I think you can and will be running there - 40 something idle 50 to 60 loaded oc. It took water to bring my down ... however, I am a clawhammer, which I think runs hotter???
scrapser Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Let me ask a question...what's the difference between tuning the BIOS/RAM/CPU and overclocking? I'm under the assumption I'm tuning everything to run at optimum performance, not necessarily trying to get every last ounce of speed out of the system. Any ideas as to what will bring down the temps in terms of settings? Doesn't seem to be any point to going backwards with BIOS versions. I read somewhere that the earlier versions are actually bad for the sticks I have. scrapser
red930 Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 OCin is pushing components beyond what they are rated to run at,while you can tune things to get optimal performance without OCing
scrapser Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Thanks again for filling me in...that's what I thought. I just wonder why it's not being specified in the discussions. Being new, I can't tell when someone's talking about having a start up problem or an issue with trying to OC. scrapser
Angry_Games Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 that fx55 will run HOT ... I had the same temps with a xp-120 on loaded oc San Diego FX-55 should idle about 30C to 35C only, and should load about max of 45C depending on the cooling you have my San Diego FX-55 + XP-90 idles about 29C and load about 39C
scrapser Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Could temps this high be due to a bad thermal compound setup? I was careful to follow the instructions when I applied it. I have the XP-120 with a Vantec Stealth 120 sitting on top blowing down. Can adjustments to the BIOS bring this down or is it most likely hardware? scrapser
timpanogos Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 yea, or just bad airflow in your case, try flipping the fan over on your xp120 ... my did much better sucking instead of blowing
