Folding Questions

I was just reading the stuff on the SETI and that, and i understand how it works to a certain degree....by my understanding, its a program that runs as a screensaver and then people connect to your computer and use it to do research....is that somewhat right?

Also, if they have to connect to your computer, im behind a router and hub, so my computers IP is different then the actual IP the internet reads it as...and i don't think they will be able to connect to my computer! Am i correct on this and just forget about signing up, or will that not be a problem?

No noone connects to your computer.

The Software (seti/Folding, etc.) will connect to a main server and download what is called a Work Unit (WU)

then it disconnects. your computer crunches numbers in that work unit until it has finished.

Then the software will reconnect with the main server, transmit the resulting data from your WU and then download another one, and then disconnect and continue crunching numbers....

Hopefully that explains it a bit.. we could use you on the Folding Team!!
