Cythrawl Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Ok. as the heading says: If you are thinking of installing x64 then PLEASE check here first BEFORE you do anything. x64 has been in Released status now for a while. You can get it via OEM and some new PC's are being shipped with it on now too. A lot of people have been thinking about trying this new OS on thier spangly DFI systems but as Angry says, DFI will NOT support it. Yes the OS is released but I'd say like 85% of drivers are NOT and are in BETA only at this time, hence why DFI will NOT Support it. So PLEASE do not ask Angry, Rgone or anyone else from DFI for help regarding your x64 install. Other people (such as myself) however may and may not be able to help you here. It really depends on if any of us have the same hardware as you are trying to get working. There are a lot of good people here, and we will try, but before you go posting on here about "x64 doesnt milk my cat in 645-bit color", please read below. So what DO you do?? If you really want to try this OS you are going to have to do some research BEFORE you install it. Trust me you need to do this beforehand. Some of us like myself have x64 installed with no problems and only very very minor software issues. First off, make a note of everything that you have (hardware wise) in your system. Second, ask yourself some serious questions.. Just how advanced of a PC user are you? Can you install any OS without wetting yourself (Windows and Linux alike)? Can you integrate Drivers into a CD using a step by step guide? Do you even know where the F6 key is on your keyboard when windows asks for a floppy disk? Do you even HAVE a floppy disk? If you think RAM is a male goat then you might be a redneck... Ahem.. If you answered no to ANY of the above (and yes to the last one!!) then you should not even ATTEMPT to install x64, END OF STORY. Forget it, go home and leave promptly, and close the door behind you.. Go on.... GO.... Now for those of you who are brave and are not bothered by installing x64, then you need to look for the most important things of all.. DRIVERS! For nvidia drivers (nforce and forceware) go to the nvidia FTP site at : ftp://download.nvidia.com Dont get any of the nforce 7x.xx drivers for the moment as they have some issues working for some people and are even more beta than 6.39. If you are brave and know what you are doing, then by all means do so, and post any results on this thread for reference. Personally, I just used the on available at nvidia's site (www.nvidia.com) for now and hasnt given me any issues. Marvell Drivers go to http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do and enter Yukon for x64. Creative Audigy drivers are RELEASED and Offical. www.creative.com I personally find them very good. Not the bloated crap that you get in windows XP 32 bit. All range of HP Printers will NOT be supported till the middle of the year, however I found a good set of drivers at www.planetAMD64.com The best thing you can do is to sign up for the forums at planetAMD64, as they have lots of beta drivers posted that arent available anywhere else. This can be a life saver. Some hardware you will NOT be able to find drivers for at all at the moment. Its really up to you if you are able to live without using that hardware for a while. I for example dont have any drivers for my Creative Webcam, but I can live without it for now until they are released. If anyone finds any working drivers for ANY hardware, or they know how to get something working, Post it into this thread so other people can see how you got it working. I think this community alone has enough talented people here to help most of you.. Ok. so now you should be a little more enlightened, now go forth and multiply and post here any issues/resolutions you all find... I would also like to apologize to Angry for being a little too venomous in my last post HERE about DFI's Stance on x64. I think I made my point, but I didnt mean it to be quite so nasy.. Again, sorry...
dracos Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Hp Printers are not officially supported yet with new drivers, but HP does offer workarounds to make them work correctly with xp64.. I have the Photosmart 7450, and went to look for drivers for it and a workaround popped up for it... You don't have quite all the options you did before but it works... I don't know about other HP printers except mine..
