Krypt Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I just upgraded my new computer with: MB-DFI Lanparty UT nF4-D CPU- AMD 64 3200+ VidCard- Radeon X800XL Heatsink- Therm X-90 PSU: OCZ ModStream 520Watt old stuff 512 DDR 400 Ram-Dont know the brand, is from my old computer that I got from Ibuypower.com DVD-Rom + CDRW OS: winXP Everything booted up right away, and I have no problems opening files and just doing normal things like listening to music or playing DVD's. However, when I go to play games (CS:source, GTA: SA) is plays great thru any cinamatics(sp?) or anything, but the moment I get to actual gameplay, it freezes. I might get a frame or two, but then it freezes. The only other problem with the new stuff so far is that my old dial-up modem that I use isnt working correctly either. It will hang for 3-4 min, and then recieve info for a few seconds, and then goes back to hanging. I havnt messed with my bios settings. Is there some setting that I should change. It might also be my ram, but I just spent way too much and cant afford anything new for a month. Thanks
Guest DrAgO Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 man the only thing i could blame is the RAM
timpanogos Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 yea, very nice system ... why the used/unknown ram? You should run some memtest and stability tests on your upgrade before going much futher (memtest, superpi, occt and prime95) get all these going and your on your way. BTW, are you running all of this on an os installion done with the system that was replaced?
Krypt Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Yea im still using the same os install from my last computer, could a fresh reinstal help?
Shard Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Fresh reinstall of the OS is always a good idea. The 'game' problem you had is the same thing I experienced with my 7800GTX, except mine rebooted in EVERY game...a motherboard bios update fixed my problem. It might fix yours too because the X800XL is still a very new card...

Shard Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 I too had the original that came with the board. I just took the latest that is on DFI's website. ...06/23. I figure you can always go back to revision bios by clearing bios via the jumper.
