Guest evolution Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Ok, so the story goes like this.... I had two new things to install on my board. One was the Truepower II PS, and the other was a replacement chipset cooler, the iceberg. I got everything in fine and tried to boot. Everything powered up fine, but the monitor stays black (with the no signal light). I also get the 3 leds (4, 3, and 2) no matter which slot i stick the pci-e card. Tried my old PS, no go. Moved ram around, used one stick in the top orange slot. I thought it might be a video card problem, but when i bought a cheap x300 and stuck it in, same thing, 3 leds, and no screen. I am pretty sure it's a board problem. I've read up here, and i've noticed many people have this problem. The one guy that fixed it had to replace his bios somehow, and that fixed it. I am trying a long cmos reset, the dfi way, but doubt itll do any good. The board had been running fine, the only thing that had happened recently was my ati silencer died. Previously, the fan had stopped running, but it started up again after i touched it. Could this be related to the PCI-E slot? When i get these 3 leds, the fan on the card is on full blast. I can hear the hds powering up etc. Oh and no beeps, but i don't remember if i set it in the bios to beep anyway. Does anyone have any advice who have had this problem. I'm at my wits end.... edit: so everyone knows, I've tried unplugging everything, cept what i needed (ram, vga, and cpu/hsf) No usb devices, hds, etc.
Guest evolution Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 a long cmos clear did not work either (12 hours)
Shard Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 You're right, does sound like a board problem based on the LED's...and especially if you tested out another graphics card.
IWasHungry Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Did you try moving the video card down to the lower PCI-e slot?
Shard Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 I also get the 3 leds (4, 3, and 2) no matter which slot i stick the pci-e card. Looks like he did try both slots...wonder if he made any progress with this problem. I'd be interested in learning the solution to a problem like this...I love learning something new...and I still have alot to learn(hehe). Guest evolution Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 no i have not solved this problem. I think i'll be trying a different nf4 board, as the more i read here, the more i see that this board likes to stop working. mrZesty Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I am having similar problems...i started a thread on it, but I'll chime in here for a sec: I decided to add 2 more 512's sticks to my PC so i powered it down, yanked the plug, added the memory and voila - no boot, progressing into no post. To make matters worse 2 of my shiny corsair xms4400 was killed in the process. mrZ
juvenile2k Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 im having likewise problems also. It if clear the CMOS and turn it back on itll run great at nothing but stock settings. If I try to bump the FSB the whole computer takes a huge crap. This is after I had been running 290 FSB rock solid for days on end, prime OCCT and super Pi. This boot problem seems to be huge with this board, nothing like little bugs on other boards I have read about. I am not a DFI hater after this I would be the first one to praise and also the first too bash them. Regardless i am RMA'ing mine for an EPOX which I have heard nothing but good things about. Sure it wont hit 310 FSB but It'd be nice to get past the bios screen at 290.
