...is great for me, the 'do it yourself guides' point me to some great articles, thanks. Question, are you going to get a sound card? I was thinking of holding off until this came out...

...I like the idea of EAX 5.0 and some killer headphones/speakers.

Also, why did you decide on the OCZ Platinum 3200 ram. I too like OCZ ram and was thinking about the Platinums but I'm waiting hoping their 1GB PC-4000 sticks come out.

Anyhow, I'll be watching this thread closely, thanks for the pics and answers.

Hi Kama, if your referring to me, I haven't even started putting all my new components together yet. I'm going on vacation soon and when I come back I'll have a go at it, after I read over this thread and see how things are going for Rexian that is. I did order these in the mean time...

...but I still intend on seeing how Rexians Platinums do and if OCZ has their PC-4000 sticks out yet.

CODESEVEN - After 2+ months of research I have decided with 3200. Best bang for the bucks right now. I have bought the motherboard, CPU and memory from monarch and they tested them out. So far no problems. People have go very far with these RAMs and they sure do look nice. :)

I am currently painting my ugly looking black panaflo that I cut of the bracket for my Zalman fan replacement. I am waiting to get the paint dried. :)

I will put the whole system up tomorrow...keeping my fingers crossed. :)

In the meantime, some more pixies...

See ya all then...

I have 2 questions...

One about "Cooling Fan Connectors" on the mobo. Can I plug in 12v Case Fans to those or are these for 5v fans? I will be rheobusing the case fans and so, won't use these but, for my personal edification can someone tell me. Also, is it wise to let mobo control the fans?

Second one about SATA power. My PSU comes with 6 SATA connectors. Shall I plug the SATA drive directly to the PSU connector or should I use mobo SATA connector? What will be wise?

Thanks for your responses...

Question about front panel connectors:

Here are the front panel connectors I have

First set:

Pic 1: The mobo headers....

IMG_0179.jpg

Pic 2: The case wires...

IMG_0161.jpg

Power SW - 2 wires white and gray

Reset SW - 2 Wires white and blue

Power LED - 2 wires White and green

HDD LED - 2 wires White and Orange

Speaker - 2 wires black and red.

If the following is the mobo connector

SPKR(4) RESET(2) HD-LED(2)

19___________________1

|_|_|_|_|___|_|_|_|_|__

20__________|_|_|_|_|_|2

PWR LED(3)

Then which slot will the white wire should go in? Or does that matter at all? Is white for ground?

Second Set:

9 pin connector with 2 pin blocked. From which I am getting 7 individual female sockets, namely

L-RET

L-OUT

GROUND

MIC-In

MIC-Power

R-RET

R-OUT

Pic 4:

How and where do I connect these?

Third Set:

9 Pin connector with 1st pin blocked. Female sockets are:

GROUND(1)

GROUND(2)

VCC1

VCC2

USB1-

USB1+

USB2-

How and where do I connect these?

Fourth Set:

9 Pin connector with 1st pin blocked. Female sockets are:

Shield

Are the USB headers for your Case front ported USB

IMG_0173.jpg

Is a Firewire header for the backplated or frontported Firewire.

IMG_0184.jpg

I'm not sure you need to use those audio cables anymore but if you do then yes

&

No they are jumpers for settings leave them alone for now

IMG_0179.jpg

Carefully using your manual as a guide ;) and if it doesn't do what it's supposed to (switch doesn't work or LED doesn't flash then you have the polarity the wrong way round)

Hello,

You have a lot of questions ;)

Yes you can plug 12v case fans into the board's fan headers.

But if you are using high CFM fans that require a lot of current do not use the board's fan headers.

The motherboard can only control the CPU PWM and CHiPSET fan headers.

The BIOS allows you to set a range,eg: low temp = 26 high temp = 50.

Based on the range you set it will determine the fan RPM.

Once in windows you can install a piece of software than allows you to manually control the fan RPM, like a fan controller but a software version. :)

The best way would be to use your FAN controller.

The sata power connectors

You can use whatever one you want, I would power it directly from the power supply.

Case wires, see picture below.

- Usually the coloured wires = positive

- White = ground/negative.

- For the LEDs, if they do not light swap the wires around, rotate jumpers by 180 degrees.

attachment.php?attachmentid=2643&stc=1

Your Second set = Front Microphine jack

Goes into the Karajan module, pic 5 near the CD/DVD audio connector.

You said 2 pins were block, this will not fit as the karajan module only has 1 pin blocked. From your pics, it looks like you dont have to use the 9pin block?

Your third set of wires are for the Front USB

Please group the wires like this,

[these 4 = 1 usb slot out of the 2]

Ground1

VCC1

USB1-

USB1+

[these 4 = 2nd usb slot of of the 2]

Gorund2

VCC2

USB2-

USB2+

Where do they go?

pic6,

attachment.php?attachmentid=2642&stc=1

Fourth set = IEEE 1394 firewire port

Goes here,

PIC7

attachment.php?attachmentid=1713&stc=1

Pic 7 = network card MAC addresses

Its like a serial number for the network card.

If you have a router or cable modem you may need to give your ISP this serial (MAC address.)
