I work with my cousin, in his art studio, here in Daytona. Last june I built him a rig.

Msi mobo K8N Neo2, AMD FX-53, 4 Gigs Ram, raided hd's yada yada yada.

This computer is mainly used to power Onyx Rip software for a colorspan wide format printer(60") We do art reproduction for artists and photographers. My cousin is also a photochop expert, so i built him a powerful rig for his needs.

Yesterday, I deceide to use this "live update" software from msi, its a windows based flash utility. I can tell you how many times i ignored the program when it told me it found updates for bios, chipset, video..etc.

So, i click on update....big mistake

The flash seemed to go well, but upon reboot...black screen of death. I went on msi forums, in the bios section, and it was horror story after horror story, on failed bios from this live update.

I did call the tech support people, but it is impossible to get a human on the phone.

I did get a response to my email. and now i have a rma number, but what a hassle. Pull the mobo, send, wait, hopefully get back working mobo.

I just flashed my dfi 875P-T 3 days ago, and had no problems.

I have always heard the horrors of a failed flash...

moral....if it aint broke, dont fix it...lol

thanks for leting me rant people...

I know the feeling my back up rig is 4 years old? I stil lhavent updated though I have done it a dozen times on the DFI just for kicks.

Try http://badflash.com/ or find anouther person with the same MOBO and do a hot flash. Personaly I would just get theone from badflash and hot flash the old one if you are memtest stable for a back up..... of cource the floppy way is best I am to lazy when my righ is tested stable. I had to do the same thing on one of my MB's.

you know, the funny thing is, i had my back turned, while i was in the black screen of death mode, i was on a different comp, reading all the msi bad flash stories, and i turn around, and the pc is at the windows desktop! I was like huh????

It must have took about 15 mins for it to get there. I knew something was still wrong, so i figure i have to try a reboot, which i did. Same thing...BSOD

I was/am able to get into the bios, and also get it to boot up from a floppy. So i re-flashed back to the previous bios, same thing, BSOD.

Tried a few other earlier bios's and nothing.

I have never tried a hot flash, and i do have an rma.

I told my cousin, we can just order a new mobo from newegg 124.00 and get the board rma'ed an re-sell it on ebay. Time is a factor, so for about 100 bucks (give or take a few dollars) we can have a new mobo, ready to install.

If I get the same board, will my raided drives be ok? I am thinking i can get away with out doing a fresh install.

I sold my 875B and when my 875P-T arrived i poped it in and windows loaded right to my desk top...but i did a clean install anyways.

Clear comos- figured you know about this from the other board as it is a common problem test memtest too before you hit windows. It could easaly be a memory timing problems or some such. Sounds like you were reading about bad flashes so you assumend you had one. If you do get memtest stable I would reinstall windows.

I hope they start helping you over there or we will need your sig info to help more. :tooth:

I dont understand why my other flashed didnt let the system boot, but this one did, all is back up and running good...Whew!

Bosses are happy too...lol
