casper_wjt Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I'm going to purchase an X2 4400+ chip along with a NF4 UltraD lanparty board. I'm new to the AMD arena, and would like to know: Will the board BOOT with the stock BIOS, so I can at least flash it to a dual core supporting BIOS. I'm reading in forums that a BIOS isn't released cause the chips aren't. That's garbage- I can order them from my supplier and they ARE in stock. So, please enlighten me whether If i buy a new board and X2 chip - WILL IT BOOT? Thanks
IceWing Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 According to what I've heard, DFI boards should work right out of the box with Advanced Micro Devices' X2 processors. However, I won't say anything about performance with a standard BIOS - but it ought to boot (although I haven't been able to test it since I use the 0.09nm Venice CPU 3500+ which I'm quite satisfied with.) Anyway, I did a bit of research and found this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.as...028&STARTPAGE=1 A lot of people seem to agree that the 5-10 BIOS is the best fit for an X2 processor, and I wonder if it's not possible to grab it somewhere on this site? :-) Last but not least, do consider whether buying a X2 processor is the best fit for you? It will at least take half a year before multi-threaded games and programs appear, and the X2 processors are still aggressively priced! Best regards, IceWing. CJ4 Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 The 623 bios has been updated for the X2 processors. However, you can still use earlier bioses as well. CJ
