Sorrento Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Hello. After the release of HUGE games, like Half Life2 and now Battlefield 2, I noticed the real need for 2 gb RAM in the system. I already have 2 x 512 mb of Corsair XMS4400 C25 or 2 x 512 mb of OCZ Platinum Revision 2 (better for the question below). The plan is to have 2 gb on my system, and I have two choices: 1.- Buy 2 x 1 gb OCZ Dual Channel Platinum 2.- Buy extra 2 x 512 mb OCZ EL Platinum Rev2 With #1 option I won't have any asynchronic or CPC problems, but ram isn't as good as the TCCD I am using right now (either one). With #2 option I will have some problems, which I need to be explained, but the ram itself will be high performance; somehow I think it will overclock as good, maybe, that with only two modules. Anyone already tried something like this... and what can the OCZ people here tell me about the 2 x 1 gb modules with CL2 3 2 6? A friend of mine tried them and they worked on a VIA chipset mobo, but with terrible latencies: CL3 4 4 8. Is this a VIA thing or something to expect from them? Thanks in advance. Angry_Games Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 contact AndyOCZ...he's sending me some 2x1024MB modules made with Infineon chips that are supposed to be able to do 2-3-5-2 @ DDR400, 1T
Sorrento Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Meaning, not all can do that? My friend could run at 1T, but the latencies were awful: 3 4 4 8 2 3 5 2... is that CL 2 3 2 6?
Angry_Games Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 it isnt up to the motherboard as to how the memory will run..it is up to the cpu's memory controller. VIA boards and NForce boards differ a bit I've got 4x512MB TCCD @ DDR400, 2T, 2-3-5-2 momma's rig has 4x512MB OCZ BH-5 + VX @ DDR400, 2T, 2-2-5-2 both of us have the new Venice/SanDiego/X2 cpu's (hers is the new FX-55 90nm SSE3, mine is the San Diego 4000+)
r1derbike Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 And just whose might those be? Hmmmm? ;-} Charles contact AndyOCZ...he's sending me some 2x1024MB modules made with Infineon chips that are supposed to be able to do 2-3-5-2 @ DDR400, 1T__________________
Sorrento Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Well keeping 1T would be extraordinary... but lets face it, the real goal here is to have 2 gb system memory. Like AG said even if its 2T CPC, the system 2 gb RAM will let any huge program like BF2 run like a charm... the rest of the system will take care of the details hehe. I just want to know if that OCZ 2gb Dual Channel Platinum can do what it says it does.
rise4310 Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 i'm looking at theexact same issue sorrento. i've done a little looking and ocz and mushkin hace some 1 gig sticks that look good, for 1 gig sticks. it seems a divider will definitely be needed. nothing is going to run like the tccd/tcc5 rev 2. i PM'd andy_ocz earlier about this and if he doesn't make an appearance here or i'll let you know what he says. Sorrento Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Give Andy some time... either his work load is as big as a mountain or he is not around to answer the PM. Will be around to know what he tells you.
