BSOD after installing Windows

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, I've got my computer together with the stuff in my sig.

I'm getting a BSOD (IRQ_not_equal_or_less) whenever I get to the windows XP pro loading screen (the black screen with the progress bar at the bottom)

Flashed from 310 to 615 to 623

I'm using the settings below

Memory: crucial DDR400 2x512 at 2.5.4.7.4

Try setting the memory voltage to 2.8v.

Chipset voltage = 1.8v

LDT voltage = 1.4v

HTT/FSB = 200Mhz

Ratio = 1:1

Command per clock...............Enable

Cas latency...........................2.5

RAS to CAS delay..................4

Min RAS active time...............7

Row precharge time..............4

Row cycle time......................7

Row refresh cycle time..........14

Idle Cycle Limit...................................256 cycles

Dynamic Counter................................Disabled

R/W Queue Bypass.............................16x

All cables are in the motherboard.

So I'm thinking the memory is hosed with the DFI. Any thoughts or should I just chalk it up and get some OCZ?

Mack, see this thread:

I was having the same problems. Before you do anything load optimized defaults and disabled CPC and Bank Interleave. Until CPC was disabled I couldn't get XP to install or load. Once XP was loaded I was able to update my drivers and install SP2. Once all of that was done, I was able to go back and re-enable CPC. Had this problem with the 1/25, 3/10 and 6/19 BIOS'.

Hope this helps!

Yeah I'm not sure if its the Ballistix ram, I'm going to assume it isn't

Ok I've tried disabling CPC and Interlace and same thing, But I've found I can start windows in safemode but not safemode with networking.

I'm installing SP2 now so maybe that will cure it

Well from my most recent experience, I can tell you that until all of my drivers were installed, my PC would still wig out.

On my list of things to do this week is slipstream my XP disk so I don't have to worry about installing SP2 after the install.

ok so I've installed SP2 with some good and bad news. Good news is now I can get to the windows progress screen, but when it is done loading I get the same BSOD.

I'm going it install all my drivers from safemode and see if I have any better luck

I take it that all of your drivers have been installed, you are just reinstalling from safe mode?

I know when I was doing mine, it crashed even when I hadn't yet installed drivers for the USB hub. Even though I didn't have any USB devices hooked up. After the last component was squared away, BAM, everything purrs like a cat!

Yes I just reinstalled everything I could think of from safemode. But after doing so I can't get into safemode anymore, it BSOD with a checksum error (I think, the screen flashes for a second)

Conan Which USB driver did you install, the one on the motherboard cd?

CPC still disabled? Just curious.

As for the USB drivers, I let it auto install those (don't remember the exact phrasing they used). I had walked away and came back after it found a driver. Not sure if it grabbed it off windowsupdate.com somehow or if it found it on the CD. When I originally installed, it did the driver for the USB port but not the hub. It wasn't until both the port and hub had updated drivers that my madness stopped.

yes unfortunately CPC is disabled (2t shows on the memory timing during post)

well I'm going to reinstall XP so I can get back to safemode to try the USB hub and port drivers.

Ok here's the latest BSOD

Machine_stop_exception

anyone know what causes that?
