NFII Ultra B BIOS dead? - reflash?

Recommended Posts

As some of you might know, it looks like my NFII board is dead. 4 LEDs, yada yada.

Hotflashing helped last time this happened - doesn't help now. I tried it 4 times, with the same "flash motherboard" as I used the time it did work.

Can I send you the BIOS to reflash it, or anything? I'd love to get this board running again, it's the only Socket A board I have, that isn't limited by SDR RAM and ~110MHz FSB.

From what I have read....

You'd be better off posting that link directly to "Angry_games" ....Some say to "PM" him to ask but....I don't like to pm people unless I have permission...It just seems the respectful thing to do...!

I would suggest ordering another bios chip with the bios you want on it AND/OR buy a Bios Savior.... you can find the IOSS bios savior at www.frozencpu.com

I would highly recomend either option so you can be back up and running quickly...

Also....did you try holding the "insert" key as you boot? what about holding in the reset button as you push the power button then letting go after it fires?

Just trying to help....Doc.

Yup, its best to Email Angry through the link in his Signature HERE.

Have you also considered getting a Bios Saviour like the good Dr has suggested? With you having quite a few problems with corrupt bios it would probably be a good idea.

Or you could even buy a new, preflashed bios off Tmod. Very quick turn around too...

Btw, how did it happen exactly?

I put a Duron 700 in there, without clearing CMOS. I don't know if the CMOS part killed it or not, but the CPU still works so I guess that's it... :/

Edit: I might try to hotflash it in my nF4 board tomorrow... The BIOS chip is in a quite bad position in my case tho, so I won't do it unless I have to remove the M/B to get my new cooling on there.

I still don't quite get it though, isn't the bios supposed to be read only? How can it even get corrupted unless you're actually trying to flash it? :(

Besides I've only heard about this behaviour on DFI boards to be honest.

Thanks....

I try to do the curtious thing....I know people are busy and sometimes just don't like to be bothered...I don't like to bug some one with what i think is a genuine problem in which some one else thinks is piddley....

For the most part I have learned if you take the time and not jump to an automatic conclusion you can read some threads and end up figuring it out on your own...by reading maybe some one else has experienced this before?

Again thanks....hope I helped...

Oh dear... Quickest way to corrupt a bios is not clearing cmos when changing major parts :P

Playah did it recently by accident when swapping out some BH-5(my BH-5 :D) and puttin in his TCCD.

Actually,I did it on pupose just being cocky, after almost 1.5yrs on my LP b witout any bios corruption,I thought "who needs to follow all them stinking rules"lololol,I guess I have to ;)

It's less risky when you have a bios saviour and a few NF2 MB's layin around.I would never have tried it otherwise. :D
