Strange NF2 Ultra B Problem

Recommended Posts

One of my housemates at Uni just got World Of Warcraft so he let me use the free 10 day trial that came with it. Pretty amazing game but its very unstable on nf2 systems unless at stock settings, not sure why but thats just the way. I took my system from 250x10 to 166x11 and it worked perfectly from the instant crashes at 250x10.

All was working perfectly, got the water cooling sorted so it was virtually silent and all was happy. However when I turned on the computer last night nothing happened which I thought was a bit odd. All four leds were lit so I was thinking Oh no 4 leds of death so flicked it off and did the official clear cmos but nothing changed. I changed to the 11/27 bios ive got on the saviour but no change. It was quite late so I did the long clear cmos overnight.

I seems to have got worse overnight and this morning when I turned it on the leds flashed like crazy and started clicking for about 10secs then the whole board powered down. I thought maybe I had a cooling leak but I have the water level marked on the reservoir and it was exaclty the same.

Since then I have :

changed processor to another xp-m 2500+

changed psu to my old psu

tried different ram combinations and slots

drained the water cooling and put my SI-97 back on

taken the board out of the case to check it wasn't shorting on anything

removed everything but graphics card, cpu, ram and the ide hdd

inspected for water damage or physical damage

I don't have any other ram or graphics cards to try.

I'm at a bit of a loss....Mainly because i'm wasting valuable the valuable free trial of WoW ;)

Does anyone have any ideas?

Strange, i've never heard of a game not working on overclocked settings. Did you try to raise the voltage? Or try to run cpc off if you've not already done so.

And please make a sig. Because i don't know which settings you use. You say 10x250 but with what timings, vddr, vdd, vcore etc.

From my experience: Usually when i quickly want to check wether an overclock is stable or not, i have 3dm01se run 5 times, 3dm03 5 times and 3dm05 5 times. If they run stable, then all the games should run okay. If you want to check the stabiliy on the longer term run programs like prime or occt.

I don't think the instability was caused by the game/oc settings but by something else...

Imo its got to be a hardware issue. I'd check the Ram out if you can get another stick, and try the sticks individually and in different slots if you can...

Or/and try them(and the Graphics Card) in another system...

Are you getting any LED activity at all now?

No change at all. My housemates have 939 pcie systems so can't check the graphics card for another few days. Can't really see why it would be component related though as the computer would still start up but would give some sort of error code.

All i get is in sequence:

-power button on

-all four leds 1 sec and fans spin up

-all four leds flash on and off roughly every half second accompanied by a quiet clicking for 5-10 seconds

-board powers off but power led stays on

I'll probably RMA it if I don't get any luck in the next few days

Can you remember the error/beep codes? That will help to narrow down what hardware the issue was/is with.

The fact you were getting beep codes definitely indicates a hardware issue, whether it be through/because of your Bios settings or something else...

The leds don't stay on and there is no beeping, just all four flashing and then powering off. Cunning plan - I'll get my digital camera out and take a video!!

Oh that'd be cool,I want to see that!!!!

Just wondering DarkHorse, have you tried checkin your manual to see if it says anything for flashing diagnostic led sequence your seeing?

Hmmm, actually i'm just reading the online manual now... Oh thats nice, you can use the Diagnostic LED's on the FrontX too :D

4 LEDS means booting the system, doesn't mention flashing. That doesn't help much...

Eventually, took ages to edit it to a proper size as it was originally over 5mb, too much to upload. Ignore the funny sounds at the start, thats just some incredibly annoying birds outside.

One thing I did notice was that the southbridge sink is now incredibly hot, i almost burnt my finger on it and its definately to hot to touch. I'm getting quite worried now....

The same happens without the graphics card....

Edit- Hmm not much use, passed bandwidth allowance already, will try somewhere else

Tis sounding like the board then Dark Horse, SouthBridge shouldn't get that hot :(

That could be why its shutting down, Heat?

Btw, links broken.

The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer

And i was looking forward to a good movie too :D
